As the Fox panel at San Diego Comic-Con wrapped up this past weekend, moderator Chris Hardwick collected the casts of the upcoming films (X-Men: Apocalypse, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, Maze Runner: Scorch Trials, and the Wolverine sequel) to take a massive selfie.
When Stan Lee came out with Channing Tatum, who will star in 2016's Gambit, it really seemed like things couldn't get much better. Then, the huge screen in Hall H showed a collection of Fox movie logos, revealing the first creative decision out of the Gambit gate.
Here's our first little taste of Gambit
In a sea of block fonts and pretty basic lettering, I think the Gambit logo really stands out. It's creative, original, and really fits with the character, which is a great indicator that they may be getting Remy LeBeau right this time around.
Channing Tatum then tweeted out his excitement to be part of this incredible family:
So far, we don't know too much about the project other than Tatum's casting, but some tidbits have made their way to the news. The character will be part of the X-Men universe, and Gambit will first appear in [X-Men: Apocalypse](tag:1194267) before his standalone movie debuts the following year.
Other than that, we just know what Tatum has told MTV News, which promises a "fresh" take (might that mean an origin story?):
"We really do want to try our hardest to give something fresh. We’re obviously going to go to the saving the world superhero movies eventually, but maybe not for the first one.
We want to introduce this character in a very different way. You know, when you try to do something different you never really know, right off the bat, what that is. We’re feeling our way, and really just kind of proving the concept of that person."
At the very least, we know that Tatum is reading up on speaking Cajun and learning some card tricks for the role, and as a Southern boy, he definitely does not want to let us down. If this logo is any indicator, Gambit's got some impressive things on the way.
