Despite Game of Thrones co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss opting to leave him out for the entirety of Season 5, actor Isaac Hempstead has confirmed that Bran Stark will be back for Season 6!
Speaking with the Irish Examiner, Hempstead had this to say:
"I can’t say a lot but I am back this season, and it’s going to get particularly interesting with Bran. He has some interesting visions."
This sounds great, and exactly what we need to breathe some new life into Bran's storyline.
Benioff and Weiss opted to leave Bran's storyline out of Season 5 in an effort to keep all character's stories from the book series on approximately the same timeline. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly last November, Benioff explained:
"The fact is, even though we’re making changes to the books and adapting as necessary, we’re trying to keep the various storylines the same as the books and trying to keep them roughly [chronologically] parallel."
Anyone who has seen Season 5 will have seen how the writers crafted the series so that all of the characters had come to the same point with their storylines, ready to build into Season 6. By season's end it was clear that streamlining the season and choosing to leave Bran's storyline out of it was the right choice.
Hempstead also told the Irish Examiner that shooting will begin on Season 6 of the HBO series at the end of July, though had no more hints on what or who the season might bring.
Here's hoping there's a lot of wild warging with the Children of the Forest and the three-eyed raven when Game of Thrones returns in 2016.
