He sacrificied all his life for Harry. He helped him all the time. In the shadow. He was brave to the end. Loyal until death. Dying, he continued to help Harry by confiding him memories which allowed him to kill Voldemort. He had become attached to Harry, but as for Lily, he didn't know how to tell it to him. He suffered, spied the one who had killed the woman that he loved by making seem to be devoted to him! Which torture when we hate this man more than anything! All his life, he fought. He was never happy : a difficult childhood, an adolescence so hard with imbecile which hurt him. And his grown-up life... Even worse. Nevertheless, he sacrificed itself for these people who hated him. Everyone hated Snape, and nevertheless, he saved them, without taking into account their remarks, their hatred. So... We can't not say he wasn't a hero. For JK Rowling, he was. For me too. After all, she said throught Harry : "Albus Severus Potter, you were named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was a slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I've ever knew." She finished the book with this sentence. It shows the respect which she had for Snape. We cannot simply hate this man. It's impossible. He is my favorite Harry Potter character and the hero of the story. Anf, for JK Rowling, I think it's the same. :)
