22 years ago life found a way when Jurassic Park stomped onto screens immediately grabbing audiences attentions with it's groundbreaking use of CGI to bring these extinct creatures to life.
The cast of Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough, Laura Dern, Ariana Richards and Joseph Mazzello brought to life a brilliant assortment of characters who captured us as they traversed a dinosaur-infested Isla Nublar.
However, despite these characters being made iconic by the actors who played them, the audition process to find the perfect actor is often long and extensive. Thanks to some footage surfacing a couple of years ago and being shown on the Today Show, we're able to get a small glimpse at what one of the main characters, Dr. Ellie Sattler might have looked like if she had been played by someone different.
The character of Dr. Ellie Sattler was brought to life by the amazing Laura Dern, however as this clip shows it looks like Gwyneth Paltrow, and in particular Helen Hunt, may have been close to getting the role as well:
How crazy is that?
Helen Hunt absolutely nailed that audition, and her performance is actually ridiculously similar to how Laura Dern ended up playing the character in the film.
Why Helen Hunt never got the role seems like it will remain a mystery, though at just 20-years-old it seems clear that Gwyneth Paltrow was probably much too young to play the role of a doctor at the top of her field.
Despite Hunt's audition, director Steven Spielberg obviously felt a connection between Dern and the character saying of his casting choice "I thought Laura Dern was the perfect Ellie Sattler. She is such an honest actor." And I guess he was right because she absolutely killed it in film.
