Idris Elba, best known for his roles in Pacific Rim, Mandela and his British TV show Luther, has been rumored to be playing the villain in Star Trek 3, now known as Star Trek Beyond. Now a video promoting a charity fan competition has confirmed his casting.

Elba joined Chris Pine (Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Simon Pegg (Scotty), John Cho (Sulu), Karl Urban (Bones) and Anton Yelchin (Chekov) aboard the U.S.S Enterprise to announce 'Star Trek; Boldly Go' a new fan competition allowing fans to be in with a chance of winning a walk on role in the new film.

Idris Elba is one of today's most powerful actors, he has a presence with every role he plays and he's great in just about anything he's in. He was rumored to be playing the villain in the new film and whilst that hasn't been confirmed as of yet, I think he'd make a great one. I'd love to see Elba play a Klingon, but what about you? Happy Elba is on board and would you like to see him play a villain? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter @JamesPorter97

Star Trek Beyond hits theaters July 8th 2016 and is directed by Fast & Furious 6 director Justin Lin.
