When two women are discussed by the media, most of the time they're painted as fighting for a man's attention or tearing each other down through pointed insults. If magazine covers and tabloid stories are to be believed, women in Hollywood spend more time taking each other down than building each other up, but we all know that's not the case.

These 12 famous friendships prove that gals can be longterm pals, despite an industry that looks for catfights over compassion.

1. Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox

Spending ten seasons together on set doesn't always lead to lifelong friendships, but Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox got so close on the set of Friends, they've maintained a connection over all these years. They talk everyday and see each other at least once or twice a week. As Jennifer Aniston put it to People:

There’s absolutely no judgment in Court. You’ll never feel scolded. She’s extremely fair, ridiculously loyal and fiercely loving... I’ve slept in her guest bedroom a lot. Without giving away too much of my private stuff, all I can say is she’s been there for me through thick and thin.

2. Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek

Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek have openly discussed gushed over the other's beauty, strength, and talent, but there's no better representation of their friendship than the one moment Salma announced Penelope was up for an Oscar:

This reaction was in front of some majorly stuffy industry bigwigs, but Salma doesn't care because these two support their friends.

3. Nicole Kidman & Naomi Watts

These two Aussie actresses came stateside and hit it big, so big that it's hard to remember an Oscar season when one of them wasn't in contention for a top prize. Through all their ups and downs, they've made a point to stick by each other, and Nicole Kidman really takes pride in that:

Naomi Watts and I are very, very good friends and have maintained that through many things…I think that's really rare, particularly for actresses, and I take a lot of pride in that. We share a naughty wicked sense of humor.

4. Tina Fey & Amy Poehler

Two of the funniest ladies working today met each other back in 1993 at Chicago's ImprovOlympic, and their friendship has been making pop culture better ever since. Actress Holland Taylor did the best job of summing up just how well Amy and Tina get along in real-life:

I worked with [Tina Fey] and Amy Poehler [in Baby Mama]. Oh my God, I’ve never had so much fun working with anybody as with those two. They’re very different [women]. Tina is very cool and mental. Amy’s just this gushing little oil pump of affection. And yet they’re absolutely peas in a pod. They adore each other. They’re like sisters. They’re like Scottie and Westie puppies in a basket.

And, of course, they were the first female co-anchors on Weekend Update, where they came out with gems that still resonate.

5. Melissa McCarthy & Sandra Bullock

Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock co-starred in The Heat together, and when they weren't busy making the studio millions, they were bonding over shared experiences and forging an unbreakable friendship. The film's director, Paul Feig, described the actresses as:

Inseparable…Normally after movies, those friendships go away. Theirs blossomed.

These days, the pair still stays in touch and gets their kids together for playdates. With Halloween just around the corner, don't be surprised if you see Melissa and Sandra trick-or-treating together!

6. Cameron Diaz & Drew Barrymore

It's easy to stick by your friends when everything is non-stop partying and movie openings, but Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore have been friends for 24 years and stayed sisterly through many a trying time. As Cameron describes her best friend:

She has the most amazing heart. She is one of my closest girlfriends, but the way she loves the people around her is really special. She is so giving of herself and so accepting of others. She has created this community for herself.

7. Natalie Portman & Rashida Jones

These two Harvard grads mostly keep their friendship under wraps, but every time they interact publicly, it's clear that they always have each other's backs. Between appearing in Funny or Die videos with puppies and giving advice on kissing your friends on camera, Rashida Jones and Natalie Portman are the kind of friends I'd like to have.

As Natalie puts it:

She would fight beasts 10 times her size to protect the people she loves. She is the kind of friend who can sub in and love you through the times when you can't necessarily love yourself.

8. Jennifer Lopez & Leah Remini

I had no idea that The King of Queens star Leah Remini and triple threat Jennifer Lopez were so close until I came across their social media interactions. They have been posting adorable images like the one above, and as Leah keeps speaking out against the Church of Scientology, Jennifer is the one that consistently has her back.

Look no further than those telling hashtags to get a sense of how deep this bond really goes.

9. Busy Philipps and Michelle Williams

They both starred in the classic '90s TV show Dawson's Creek, but Michelle Williams and Busy Phillips have stayed close well into the 21st century. You've probably seen them goofing around at an awards show (where they often attend together) or sending out messages of support on social media (where they often make the rest of us jealous).

In fact, the two spend so much time together that a rumor started alleging Busy and Michelle are "more than just friends." Michelle likes to say that they are definitely "more than friends," but that doesn't mean they're romantic. Leave it to a pair of best friends to make everyone else think they're dating!

10. Brie Larson and Shailene Woodley

These two up-and-coming stars have made it through tumultuous careers as actresses before hitting it big, and through it all, they've been there for each other. When Brie Larson was asked about her friendship with Shailene Woodley, she confirmed to GQ that they find strength in their support:

I really appreciate the fact that she saw me for me before even I did. Before I could even recognize it and feel strong in that. I can’t think of anything in particular that she’s actually said—it’s more just every time we see each other we cry and we hold each other and we look in each other’s eyes and we kind of go, like, 'This world is sooo interesting.'

Now that Shailene is the face of a huge franchise and Brie is gunning for an Oscar nomination (and likely win) for Room, I'd say this was one productive relationship.

11. Emma Watson and Sophie Sumner

You might be surprised to hear that the baddest witch in the game, Emma Watson, and America's Next Top Model winner Sophie Sumner have been spotted palling around together on more than a few occasions, but these two actually go way back. They went to school together back in England and have remained close ever since.

Between sharing an apartment and attending music festivals together, it's kind of shocking just how normal these two famous faces appear. But, I guess that just goes to show that no amount of fame or fortune can tamper with a true connection.

12. Viola Davis and Taraji P. Henson

These longtime friends were nominated in the same category at this year's Emmy Awards, and they perfectly summed up how enduring bonds are way more important than competition. When Viola Davis' name was called, this is how Taraji P. Henson reacted.

AND Taraji went on to congratulate Viola on an inspiring speech, of course the pair only has glowing things to say about each other. Ultimate friendship goals.
