It's a good thing Daniel Craig isn't a spy in real-life, because it turns out he's probably a terrible liar.
Back in May, Simon Pegg stated that Craig was one of the big name stars who had grabbed a cameo role in Star Wars: Episode VII- The Force Awakens. More specifically, it was revealed that the James Bond star would fight for the empire as a Stormtrooper.
When EW caught up with Craig for an interview, they took the opportunity to ask him about these claims. It turns out he rather enthusiastically denies any involvement in Star Wars. He told EW:
Why would I ever bother doing something like that? Fucking hell! Pffft. Play an extra in another movie?
The James Bond star doth protest too much, methinks.
Although this might sound like an extremely snobby reaction from Craig, his quotes should probably be read in the jestful tone they were most likely said in. Indeed, Craig continues with this playfully aggressive defence to the question, adding:
Talk to Simon Pegg. He obviously knows way more than I do. He’s just jealous because he’s not in Star Wars. He’s got some issue with J.J. I don’t know what the fuck it is. You need to talk to Simon about it.
Of course, as we found out at Comic-Con, Simon Pegg will actually appear in Star Wars: Episode VII after all, which adds another enigmatic twist to Craig's statement.
Personally, I'm more inclined to think that Craig really is in Star Wars, and this is just him toying with the fans. Of course, if he is a Stormtrooper, we probably won't recognize him, unless he's wearing a tuxedo or something.
