Comic-Con was this past weekend and we saw several important panels for up-coming superhero movies. Deadpool was one of the most anticipate films to show at Comic-Con and the fans were delighted to find out more information about the unconventional Anti-hero.
Actor Ryan Reynolds will be playing Deadpool in the new Marvel film set to release in 2016. However, this isn't the first time that Reynolds has played a fictional hero on the big screen. in 2011, Reynolds stared as the Green Lantern . The film did not live up to its expectations and many have given the film negative reviews. One of the main critiques of the film was that it employed special effects that "weren't especially special". Green lantern was also slated to be the first superhero film for the DC Cinematic Universe but because it had failed in the box office, Warner Bros. cancelled future sequels of Green lantern. 2013's Man of Steel would later become the first film of the DCCU.
Reynolds' has a more optimistic view of his new superhero film. When asked by Yahoo on the difference between Green Lantern and Deadpool, Reynolds said, “Well, script. When we shot Green Lantern, nobody auditioning for the role of Green Lantern was given the opportunity to read the script, because the script didn’t exist. I’m not complaining about it — it was an opportunity of a lifetime, and if I were to go back and retrace my steps, I would probably do everything the exact same way. But script, that’s what’s different on this one".
I love that fact that DC and Warner Bros. are building a cinematic universe that will rival Marvel's universe. Hopefully films like Deadpool and even a future Green Lantern reboot (in 2020!!!!) will build upon DC's already successful films. Go DC! I'm rooting for ya!
