So like most people who watch Game of Thrones, I was completely devastated that Jon Snow was murdered. Me and my husband just turned to each other and just looked at each other like... no. No no. NO.
Even now, I still refuse to believe that he has been killed off (he was pretty much asking for it by helping the Wildlings, but still, no fair!!), and after all the outrage and fan tears, I've started to get to know more about the prophecy called "The Prince That Was Promised." For those who may not be aware of what that entails, the prophecy is a promise of a prince who will save the world from impending darkness, and if he fails, so does the world.
There are a lot of theories on who is the prince, but what's required are the following signs:
- The birth of a prince
- That he has the blood of a dragon
- Born from smoke and salt
- A bleeding star forming in the sky
- The return of dragons
- The dark eye falling on the prince
There are so many theories about who this prince could be, one being the Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryan. She was reborn along with her dragons in fire, and came out unharmed. As she was reborn, the bleeding star appeared in the skies, and finally the high priest of R'hollor claimed:
"That Daenerys stands in peril. The dark eye has fallen upon her, and the minions of night are plotting her destruction, praying to their false gods in temples of deceit… conspiring at betrayal with godless outlanders …"
The red priest, Mellisandre, thought that Stannis Baratheon may be the prince that was promised, but that theory ended with his death via Brienne of Tarth.
And finally, we come to Jon Snow. There is a theory that Jon Snow is not the bastard of Eddard Stark, but rather the child of Rhaegar Targaryan and Eddard's sister, Lyanna. This would conclude that Snow has dragon blood running through his veins.
Now, to complete this theory (and to kind of give more context to my portrait concept), I have been reading about how in actual fact, the White Walkers could actually be good, and that man is the evil. There are theories about how The Wall came to be, and one is that it was the White Walkers who built it with their magic to keep men out, and through history the facts have become fuzzy. It's also known in GoT history that the knights king (a Stark of Winterfell who lived after the wall was built) took a White Walker as a bride, I guess as a peace treaty? So there is the possibility of a DNA connection between the Starks and the White Walkers.
There is so much more information to write down, so I will leave this video here for you to watch (I highly recommend that you do!). It's about 10 minutes long but it is a really interesting watch.
So to conclude, if Jon Snow's real father is a Targaryan, he has the blood of the dragon, and with being a Stark and their potential connection to the White Walkers through blood, Jon Snow literally is ice and fire.
Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed my little article, and enjoy the process of my portrait of Jon Snow.
"Will you make a song for him?" the woman asked.
"He has a song," the man replied.
"He is the prince that was promised, and his is the song of ice and fire."
