If any franchise needs to have it's own cinematic universe, it's the
Teenage Mutant Freaking Ninja Turtles!
We all know the many different origin stories of the turtles, or at least the most popular one. Hamato Yoshi owns a rat named Splinter, who learns ninjutsu by watching his master from his cage. Hamato also loves Tang Shen. Oroku Saki comes along and kills Tang Shen, Yoshi, and almost Splinter, but not before Splinter can scratch up his face, losing a piece of his little rat ear in the process. Splinter escapes to the sewer, T.C.R.I. comes along and loses some goo, a boy drops his pet turtles into the sewer, and Splinter and the turtles, soon to be named Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael, mutate and whup Foot butt.
***COOL FACT ALERT***
Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird originally created TMNT one night after watching some bad television to parody a few different comics, including Daredevil. See the similarities? Out of control truck? Radioactive waste creating a superhero (or 5)? Nice!
Sorry, got off track.
You might also know that Michael Bay almost made them aliens, but, faced with a situation where everyone that was 30 years old or younger would hate his guts and not go watch his movie, he changed it back to the gooey backstory.
But we need more backstory!
Shredder, Splinter and Tang Shen: Ninja Vengeance
This is the first movie I'd like to see...this is enough drama to make at least one movie! It'd be similar to the love story in Karate Kid 2, but with more murder and New York pizza. And if they use the original ORIGINAL origin story, where Hamato Yoshi and Oroku Nagi (Shredder's bro) loved Tang Shen, and Yoshi kills Nagi in defense of Tang Shen, then they move to New York, where Saki kills them out of vengeance, then BOOM! Maybe a trilogy!
She had to see some pretty cool stuff before meeting the turtles, right? Reporter in New York? Plus, the new movies link her to the turtles in a manner I really don't feel like googling and figuring out right now. Something about her dad and Eric Sacks.
Not sure how great a movie it'd be though, so not going to make up some cheesy movie title for her.
Casey Jones: Justice by Hockey Stick
Terrible movie name, I know. But a masked vigilante with love for sports and a hatred for scum-sucking law-breaking pukes? This guy has issues, and who KNOWS why. I'm thinking a Punisher-type backstory, except maybe the Comcast mob came in and disconnected his cable, causing him to miss the outcome of the 1990 MLB baseball world series....NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! (spoiler alert-the Reds won)
I'm an old school TMNT guy, so I have no clue who this lady is, except for what I've read on Wiki. And I definitely don't have any idea what kind of movie she'd be in. But related to the Shredder? In the Foot? In love with Leo? Ew...but still, telling her shady, ninjutsu training filled past, all the way up to where she gets the hots for her mortal enemy would make a pretty good addition to the universe.
Bebop & Rocksteady
Think of it; two men, leading a life of crime, minding their own illegal business, approached one day by a walking cheese grater with an offer. Become a mutant rhino and warthog? Heck, why not? It sounds like they were pretty dumb before and after the mutation, so their backstory might play out more like Dumb & Dumber than Bonnie and Clyde or Natural Born Killers...so maybe not on the movie. But some flashbacks in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 movie would rock!
Krang: Greetings from Dimension X
OHMYBRAINYGOSH. Talk about a complicated part of the universe. Whether he's a warlord from Dimension X, or just a pissed off brain that got kicked out of some psychopath's body, any backstory of this insane in the membrane brain would be a CGI heaven.
Just leave this suit out of it...
Or at least upgrade it...lol
I'm officially turtled out! What other characters could have a backstory and play a part of this universe? I remember The Chameleon from the comic books pretty good-
He might make a good origin story. Lots of potential with all these mutants!
