[Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](tag:711158)' main villain Kylo Ren has been shrouded in mystery. We know that he is attempting to continue the Sith legacy, as he wields that fantastic red lightsaber. Plus he's rocking that Darth style with the long black cape. But just how obsessed with the Sith is he? Could Kylo Ren be the mysterious Grave Robber? And why does he wear a Revan-like mask when confronting our heroes?

As the sequel novels dealt with the next generation of Skywalkers and Organa-Solos, many fans have speculated that the new heroes of Star Wars Episode 7 will actually be related to the original films' trio. If this is so, Kylo Ren is a definite contender. Perhaps it is his connection to the Skywalker family that drives him to obsession with the Sith: he could want to follow in his grandfather Darth Vadar's footsteps.

But the Sith way is not an easy one. In order to become a Sith Warrior, you must first train under a Sith Master. And in the aftermath of the war with the Empire, there are no more followers of the Sith philosophy to be found. So how could Kylo Ren overcome this barrier, and harness the full power of the dark side of the force?

Power From Passion

Ren does seem to already wield a lot of Force power: reaching out with his hand, he commands some kind of energy, but the destructive power of this has not yet been revealed. Without a master, Ren might only be able to control a fraction of the power that Darth Vadar or Darth Revan could. Whether he is a lone agent, wanting to keep his Sith abilities to himself, or if he seeks to revive the Sith way of life, remains to be seen.

However, we have had some clues already about a mysterious figure that seems to be obsessed with Darth Vadar, thanks to leaked early concept art. This enigmatic character was dubbed the Grave Robber by fans, and speculation has been rampant about their origins ever since (you can read more about that here). Considering Kylo Ren's desire to emulate the Sith Lords of the past, it's possible that he and the Grave Robber are one and the same.

Perhaps Kylo Ren scavenges remnants of the defeated Republic, looking for ways to follow the Sith path and find a new master. Until then, Ren is definitely a powerful foe, and one that seems to have allied with the new Stormtrooper army the First Order (you can read more about them here).

Threatening Peace

An official synopsis may have been leaked, revealing key elements of the plot for Star Wars Episode 7, and hints about Kylo Ren.

"When a ruthless prince rises to power and threatens galactic peace, a runaway soldier, an uncongenial scavenger, and a hot shot pilot find their fates intertwined as they embark on a journey to find the most powerful warrior in the galaxy."

Although the synopsis gives no names, it's likely that the "ruthless prince" that our heroes fight is none other than Kylo Ren himself. So the question remains: is he leading the First Order or merely working for them? Who is the real power behind the threat?

We'll probably have to wait until the film is released to find out, but until then there's plenty of fan theories to hint at possible outcomes. Share your own in the comments, or write your own post!
