The Revenant is an upcoming western thriller film produced and directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, based on the novel with the same title, by Michael Punke.

It is based on a true story of heroism of the American West. A Philadelphia-born adventurer, frontiersman Hugh Glass goes to sea at age 16. He spends several years under the pirate Jean Lafitte and almost a year as a prisoner of the Loup Pawnee Indians on the plains between the Platte and the Arkansas rivers.

Eventually Glass escapes and comes under the employment of Captain Andrew Henry. Glass gets attacked by a grizzly bear and is left in a very bad state. But Henry decides not to abandon him. He realises that Glass is mortally wounded and transporting him would be difficult, so he leaves two men to care for him till his death and bury him. But unfortunately, both men abandon Glass. Defenceless and wounded, Glass has to survive against all odds. Eventually he embarks on a 3,000-mile-long vengeful pursuit of his ignominious betrayers.

The film was originally set to be directed by Park Chan-wook with Samuel L. Jackson in mind to star, and later by John Hillcoat with Christian Bale in negotiations to star. Both directors left the project, and González Iñárritu signed on to direct in August 2011. In April 2014, after several delays in production due to other projects, González Iñárritu confirmed that he was beginning work on The Revenant and that DiCaprio would play the lead role. Tom Hardy is the other big name to be starring in the film.

Hope the film does well since the plot is as gripping as it can be. Also, the novel is a good read as well !
