Many people have now heard that [Daredevil (Netflix)](tag:1168702) Season 2 has been confirmed to be coming out some time next year, and even more intriguingly, that it has confirmed to be very heavily focused on the Punisher. This article, will be solely about my theories (and some other good ones that I have heard) for what could happen, and what new or returning characters will be in Daredevil season 2, as well as what those characters may be doing.
We do have Punisher confirmed, and we can assume he will be fighting Daredevil because of the very different moral codes they have. Daredevil does not believe in killing, but the Punisher does. Very much so. It is possible however that they will end up starting off on the same team, before they have to fight, or have to join up after they have already declared war on each other to defeat a much more powerful enemy(and possibly set up for the Defenders)
Minor or just other villains
I would like to point out that while everyone is focusing on the punisher, there will probably also be other villains or even just bad guys, in the second season, even if they only last for an episode or 2. Number 1 on my list of possible antagonists:
Stick appeared in season one episode seven. He has not been seen in any other episodes of the series, but he was also seen with stone. In the comics, these 2 characters team up to battle the organization known as the hand. In the last season, Stick was in conflict with daredevil for killing a child, who he believed was going to be used as some kind of a weapon. He did leave the show with a cliffhanger concerning- well a lot of stuff. They never really explained a lot of things he talked about during his brief time in the series, so it would make sense to bring him back next season, to explain those things and possibly use him to introduce possible other antagonist number 2:
The hand are a bunch of evil undead mystical ninjas. The first season of Daredevil had several easter eggs to the Hand, such as Stick constantly talking about a war very vaguely that it is probably safe to assume involves the hand, since that is Sticks main enemy in the comics, and given that the ninja, Nobu seemed like he could be a hand member. He very nearly killed Daredevil, so if the hand is introduced, it might require our hero to ask for help, which could provide a little bit of a set up for the Defenders series that will be coming out once Marvel is finished which there first four (possibly five) Netflix shows. The Hand is a very large problem for Daredevil in the comics, so it is possible that the hand could even last to become an enemy in the defenders series. (The video below is from Daredevil season 1, when Daredevil battles Nobu, who theoretically is a member of the hand, which would explain how he lowered his temperature and slowed his heart)
Even though, Jason Statham is no longer going to be Bullseye, it is reasonable to assume that Bullseye will still be in season 2, despite the originally planned actor backing out
Wilson Fisk/ the King Pin
Wilson Fisk was the main villain in the first season of Daredevil. He was a very big part in the series and was played brilliantly by Vincent D'Onofrio. The character was played very differently than in the comic books, and appears to have gone to jail at the end of the first season. It is conceivable that one of his co-workers or employees will break him out of prison, in order to have him return as a large part of the series in the second season. It is entirely possible that he could hire Bullseye to take out Daredevil, as revenge for Daredevils' victory over Fisk in the first season. If Fisk were to return to the series it would most likely mean that the Daredevil would go after him, either with or while going against Punisher.
Additional non-villain characters
Luke cage is getting his own series before to long, and he is going to be in the jessica jones series that will be coming to Netflix even sooner. He will also be in the Defenders show, that Daredevil will also be in. It would make sense for his character to be introduced a little into Daredevil, maybe as Daredevil, or Matt Murdock's friend. He could also make a splendid ally against... anyone. Another way he could be introduced is if his business, the heroes for hire, were to get into some law trouble and needed a cheap attorney. If he is introduced the most likely way to do so however, would be either as a cameo or to have Nelson and Murdock defend him before he is convicted, which would lead to his comic book origin story. In the comic books Luke Cage was framed for a crime he did not commit and had to go to jail for it. He then made a deal for early release that involved him being experimented on. He was given powers by the experiment that he then used to escape prison and clear his name.
You knew it was coming, what you may not know is that it has been confirmed. Electra will be in Daredevil season 2.
This theory has very little basis, except for this: Spider-man has already, been confirmed to be in the MCU (marvel cinematic universe), and it has been confirmed that they will not be giving us a Spider-Man origin story. They also confirmed that they will show him in Captain America 3. Many characters will be in Captain America 3, so it may be difficult to show them all and still have time to tell us about who spider man is and what is abilities are. It may be significantly easier to introduce him in an episode of Daredevil, which may help set up to show Daredevil that he needs help, which will help set up for the Defenders.
I have one theory that is not based on a character. I have been told that this theory was nuts, but just bear with me on this:
Daredevil season 2 could involve Civil War
Now I do realize that many people think that it is impossible due to the fact that technically Daredevil has no Super Powers, but he is still a super hero, so I think he would still be hunted under the registration act, and more importantly think that this could be done. Here is why:
1. It makes absolutely no sense for Marvel to make arguably one of the biggest comic book crossover events of all time, into only one movie.
2. Daredevil, Bullseye, and the Punisher all had parts to play in Civil War (Bullseye was one of the thunderbolts, Punisher helped out Cap, and saved Spider-Man, and Daredevil was on Cap's team, and got captured by Iron Man)
3. Netflix is basically where Marvel is putting their darker stuff right now. It could also very well be where the darker parts of Civil War go like the thunderbolts, which was basically a team of psycotic super-villains that were forced to work for SHIELD.
4. To make it "involve" Civil War, they really wouldn't have to do much. All they have to do is have a few of the main characters discussing the registration act, and then later they would have to make sure that they had more mention to it in relation to Daredevils super heroing (how he is being hunted by the government, or even his possible registration).
