First you the Walking Dead. Then you had Z Nation. Now the series of Empire of the Dead will be joining them. The man who put Zombies on the map for tv George Romero is writing a script.

George Romero is writing Empire of the Dead adaption for the small screen.

Empire of the Dead is based in the same universe as Romero's original Night of the Dead trilogy. However, Empire has another dark force in the story that will add to the appeal. So the plot of Empire...

Welcome to New York City years after the undead plague has erupted...but just because Manhattan has been quarantined, don't think that everyone inside is safe! Not only do flesh-eaters roam Manhattan, but there's another ancient predator that has taken a bloody bite out of the Big Apple: vampires rule the city! But who is plotting against the Mayor? Is there a zombie uprising afoot? Who is the firecracker known as Dixie Peach? And in the pit of the bloody Circus Maximus, can anything stop the unchained fury of the zombie gladiator known as Zanzibar? It's zombies vs. vampires - with humans caught in the crossfire!

The series will be written by Romero and Peter Grunwald, executive produced by Romero and Grunwald, and feature Sam Englebardt and William D. Johnson of Demarest as additional exec producers. The announcement of the project just came today at Cannes so we don’t have a lot of info, but we imagine we’ll learn more soon. And since a zombie TV series based on a comic book has proven to be a workable idea thanks to The Walking Dead, this one could develop quickly.
