I'd just like to make a statement here before we start that this is a list of who I would want to see as Carol Danvers, not the best list in the world, or everybody's favourite list, so if you agree, that's cool! If you disagree? That's cool, too because opinions are great. Also, not on this list is Katee Sackhoff because she's rumored to already be cast as Danvers.
I love Ms. Marvel, and I also love Captain Marvel, in fact, I'm a huge Captain Marvel fan, so when heard that Marvel would be making a Captain Marvel Movie, I was ecstatic. Carol Danvers is Captain Marvel. And Captain Marvel is the first female Marvel comic book character that has been rumored to have her own franchise film. Not, of course, taking the shine away from Black Widow because I have been waiting for her film for years, but Danvers will be the first. Now, I know that Katee Sackhoff has been rumored to be considered. for the role, but that aside, I thought I would break down my personal casting choices. So here is a list of my top 10 casting choices for Carol Danvers:
10. Dakota Fanning
Dakota Fanning made the transition from child star to hollywood star relatively unscathed. She was in films like Cat in the Hat and Uptown Girls when she was younger, but she began to shoot bigger films, like Push with Chris Evans and the Twilight Saga as one of the Volturi. So basically, Dakota would be a great Danvers if we were going for Danvers: College Edition, or a younger version.
9. Natalie Dormer
Natalie Dormer has the modern world in the palm of her hand. She slays in everything she does. She started to be noticed playing Margery Tyrell on HBO's Game of Thrones, and proved that she has an attitude and a screen presence worthy of a Marvel Superhero. This is problematic because she's also allegedly in cahoots with Marvel for [Captain America: Civil War](tag:994409), so this might cancel out her chances at the superhero.
8. Christian Serratos
Christian Serratos started on our screens on Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide if you can cast your mind back that far. She was Suzie and nobody really noticed her much. And then she disappeared for a while, until she popped up on our screens again as Rosita Espinoza on The Walking Dead. She's young as well, and Hispanic, but these are fictional characters, and their nationalities don't have to be the same in every interpretation of them. Which makes Christian a good candidate for Danvers.
7. Emilia Clarke
Emilia Clarke also showed up first on our screens as Daenerys Targaryen on GoT as well. We know how badass Dany is, and we know that she's capable of taking on Captain Marvel. But something that might add to her potential is her recent film debut in Terminator: Genisys as Sarah Conner. She has a history of playing strong leading ladies, and Captain Marvel may be no exception.
6. Michelle Rodriguez
Michelle Rodriguez has made her living making tough movies. The Fast and Furious franchise, her work with Robert Rodriguez in Machete prove that she's capable of a good stunt, and fit enough to cope with it all. She is also Hispanic, which goes back to the Christian Serratos theory. Why can't Captain Marvel be Latina?
5. Yvonne Strahovksi
This Australian starlet made an impression in Chuck as Sarah, a female spy working with Zachary Levi's title character, Chuck. A lot of people have talked about her as the Captain, and she's a fan favourite, too. I think she has what it takes to be Carol Danvers, and a lot of other people do, too.
4. Emily Blunt
Emily Blunt is incredibly diverse as an actress. She's funny, dramatic, heart-felt and tough. She starred alongside a plethora of famous celebrities in Into The Woods, Anne Hathaway and Meryl Street again in The Devil Wears Prada and Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow. Edge of Tomorrow is probably the best example of my theory, because Blunt's character Sergeant Rita Vrataski was the perfect tough heroine, she inspired and she was complex, and perfect for Carol Danvers.
3. Gabrielle Union
Some version of Ms Marvel say that Carol is slightly older than college, but her age is generally pretty vague. Gabrielle is only 42, but she doesn't look a day older than 30. She's incredible, and multi-faceted for Danvers. She first starred in Bring It On alongside Kirsten Dunst, and recently Top Five with Chris Rock. She might be nearing the edge of the older Captain Marvel, but age is just a number and perhaps a black Captain Marvel is what we need right now, which is why Gabrielle is number three.
2. Amber Heard
Amber Heard is currently dealing with her own business right now after her husband Johnny Depp allegedly brought his dogs into Australia while shooting Pirates of the Caribbean 5. But she's also been starring in Magic Mike as Zoe with Channing Tatum and Matt Bomer. She's lead a relatively quiet film career, choosing independent films over big Hollywood blockbusters, but Captain Marvel could be her debut film to break through the industry.
1. Charlize Theron
Finally, Charlize Theron. I'm sure people still would have thought of her to play Carol Danvers before [Mad Max: Fury Road](tag:41445), but the amount of people who would have has probably doubled. Charlize Theron has had a long and illustrious career in the film industry, and she has played roles of different complexity and difficulty. She was the Evil Queen in Snow White and the Huntsmen with Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth, and in the newest reboot of George Miller's Mad Max as Imperator Furiosa alongside Tom Hardy as the title role. In the film she was strong, emotional and driven. People even argued that it was more Furiosa's film than Max's because she stole every scene with her intense strength and dominance; something that might be handy if she were given the opportunity to play Captain Marvel.
Basically, Captain Marvel is going to make history in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and in the comic book and comic film universe as a whole. Whoever gets the opportunity to play her will be chosen by the people who know exactly what to do with her to make the greatest movie they can make. I can't wait to see who Marvel decides to cast.
