7 years. 7 years since this

More specifically, 7 years since Marvel movies exploded with popularity. Iron Man was released in 2008, a year that changed comic book films forever. The movie took a formerly second rate character and made him into one of the most popular with today's audience. However in the years since, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has significantly cooled down as you can read about here. Due to lack of competition from, well, anywhere, Marvel has no reason to change or get better. The 2011 Green Lantern film bombed providing no reason for Marvel to even try!

However! There is hope! With the new Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film is looking to be a total game changer! And here is why:

1. It is going to be freaking amazing!

Do you bleed?
Do you bleed?

I mean look at that! The suit and the visual effects already look amazing! The plot so far is unclear, we know Batman is out for revenge. This going to be interesting because we have never seen an angrier Batman or Bruce Wayne on film! Plus it is going to be somewhat based off of The Dark Knight Returns, one of Frank Miller's greatest works! Also, it is not an origin story, Batman has already been fighting for 20 years or so, which means there will be no slip ups from Batman that scream inexperience, another thing we have yet to see done well on screen.

2. Marvel will have competition!

Uhn!?
Uhn!?

If you are a history buff like me this will make a lot of sense if related to the Space race. Basically the United States and Soviet Russia were in a race to see who could get to the moon first. The competition with the other was a large reason that we got to the moon so quickly. Or in much simpler terms, competition breeds champions. So coinciding with BVS, hero movies are about to get much more spectacular, better plot and even better actors!

3. It is just the beginning

So, starting with Dawn of Justice in 2016 up until 2020, 11 DC movies will be released! Including a Justice League parts 1 and 2. So pretty much it is doing what Iron Man did back in 2008, it is starting everything! From 2008 to 2015 Marvel released 12 movies! With no competition these movies were game changing. These next 5 years could be totally huge! With Marvel and DC competing and trying to release the best movies, quality will be exponentially increasing! For the record, Marvel has 9 films scheduled for the next 5 years.

Conclusion

Lastly, because the movie is not an origin, it opens up a whole possibility for a Batman and Superman extended universe, like TV shows etc! Needless to say I am extremely excited for the next few years in comic media!
