Have you ever sat alone or with a group of friends, whether it be in a theater or in the comfort of someones living room. Then, proceeded to put on a very very superhero-esc movie, or maybe something fictional, sci-fi, possibly even fantasy driven.. Then spent the next hour and a half to two hours during or after, simply breaking down every aspect of this movie that isn't congruent with reality as you know it? Well I sure have, and I am certain many of you reading this have too. The question I pose is, Why, why do we do this to ourselves?

Why do we take the time to grab a movie like 'The Dark Knight' for example then say: "There's no way a man can dress up like a bat, running around the streets of a city filled with unbelievable crime, super-villains and cops, and not get shot and killed by SOMEONE" That's just impossible!

Well He Can!

Or 'Spider-man,' guy who gets bitten by a radio active spider. In the comic book/movie realm, you are now endowed with the amazing ability to climb walls, shoot webs and have super-human strength.

In our reality, our pick-apart-realm, You are endowed with a trip to the hospital, praying that it wasn't something super poisonous.

Another one of my favorites I've heard throughout the years: "Lightsabers can't be real weapons, they wouldn't just stop at a fixed point if light was coming out..It would just continue going on forever right?"

My response is, "They do because they can!"

Even though I'm sure George Lucas has come up with some amazing scientific explanation for this, or maybe even just a "It's the force" explanation. The reality of the situation is:

I DON'T CARE!
I DON'T CARE!

Which brings us back to the original question: Why do we do that to ourselves while watching fictional movies? I'm no psychologist so I really don't know. I just wonder why sometimes we just can't let our minds wander and flow with the world that the director has spent months and years setting up and creating for our enjoyment.

I for one try my best at all times to just ride along with the movie and let my mind really wander. Because I really hate to ruin it for myself. I know there are people who just can't help but try to rationalize things that aren't meant to be rational. And that's okay, to each their own. But sometimes, you just have to roll with the fact, that a man born on Krypton has come to earth and can fly, or that a genius, playboy, billionaire, philanthropist, built a suit of armor that helps him battle aliens and Gods. Or that a man frozen in Ice for 70 years survived because he was injected with a super serum... and is now the Captain of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

You know why... Because it happened! :)

Have any of you done this yourself, or experienced this while watching movies with your friends? Feel free to share some stories in the comments. Would love to hear them.
