This past week, the 12th installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ant-Man, was released to critical praise. Now, with such praise, a future sequel seems inevitable. With Marvel's full Phase 3 released and not ending until 2020, there is a considerable amount of time to plan Ant-Man 2. Here are six things we'd love to see!
1. A Scott and Hope Team-Up
With the mid-credits scene seemingly setting up Hope to be the new Wasp as well as Marvel head Kevin Feige confirming she will NOT be featured in next year's [Captain America: Civil War](tag:994409), we may have to wait quite a while before seeing Wasp in action. However, her character should be fleshed out in a potential sequel, which by that time will likely feature her fighting side by side Scott Lang in the Wasp suit.
2. More Michael Peña and the Gang Moments
Some of the funniest moments in the movie were provided by the trio of Michael Peña, TI and David Dastmalchian. Reuniting these three in the sequel will be key to making it just as funny, lighthearted and silly as Ant-Man was.
3. Eric O'Grady Reference
With Mitch Carson introduced in the opening scene, why not introduce Eric O'Grady? Yes, THAT Eric O'Grady. The third hero to take the Ant-Man mantle in the comics and a rival of Carson's, a small cameo or reference to him would sure be exciting.
4. Giant Man
In the movie, Hank Pym armed Scott with Pym Particle-infused throwing discs, which were used to shrink and grow things, resulting in the hilarious Thomas the Tank Engine scene in Cassie's room. Could Ant-Man use those powers to grow himself? Who WOULDN'T want to see that?
5. Stature Foreshadowing
Considering that the last Phase 3 movie, the Inhumans, doesn't come out until 2020, by the time Phase 4 rolls around, there is plenty of time for the actress who portrayed Cassie Lang, Abby Ryder Fortson, to grow up to the age where she acquires her super powers and becomes the hero Stature. Now, that might be a bit too much to expect, but a little teasing or foreshadowing of Cassie's future would be welcome.
6. Janet van Dyne Returns?
In the movie, Janet van Dyne, the original Wasp, was apparently killed when she shrunk herself down into the Quantum Realm. However, by the film's end Scott Lang successfully escapes the Quantum Realm, resulting in Hank Pym wondering if his wife could still be alive. Could Pym's search for her be a central plot point in Ant-Man 2?
