The second film in the new trilogy of Star Wars movies is set to be directed by Looper director Rian Johnson and as of yet, no official casting has been made for the film. According to The Wrap, Lucasfilm has offered the villain role in Episode VIII to none other than Benicio Del Toro. The actor is best known for his roles in The Usual Suspects, Snatch and 21 Grams.

Discussions for the part are still in very early stages but apparently Disney really want Del Toro for the role. Del Toro has already worked with Disney recently with his small role as The Collector in Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Del Toro is a menacing presence and would make an excellent villain. I love how Lucasfilm is casting their new movies, they're going for talent rather than just big household names and that's exactly what Del Toro is. As none of us know the part in question I can't say whether or not I see Del Toro as a fit or not but if Lucasfilm want him then I hope they get him!

Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick) is set to direct Star Wars: Episode VIII which starts shooting later this year and releases May 26th 2017. Del Toro can be seen later this year in Denis Villeneuve's (Prisoners, Enemy) latest thriller; Sicario which hits theaters September 18th (US) October 9th (UK).
