"Madness, as you know, is a lot like gravity, all it takes is one little push." Now how could someone who says that be so loved? For those who do not already know we are talking about The Joker. Known as one of the most violent villains, guaranteed one of the creepiest, has killed the most amount of people in the DCCU!

Who is the Joker?

There has been a large amount of debate over who The Joker was before becoming the crime boss we know and somehow love. Not much is known about him before he falls into a vat of waste during a heist. But as far as we can gather from multiple comics, it seems that he was robbing a chemical plant when he was confronted by Batman. When he comes out of the chemical waste his skin is white, lips red and hair green. This and the murder of his wife drive him totally insane. Some heroes who can read minds have read his and say he burned his parents alive. Suggesting sadism and possibly abusive parents. At some points it is suggested he only feigns insanity so as to avoid the death penalty, this could make sense seeing as he is very smart.

Why is he so scary?

"I'm not gonna kill ya, I'm just gonna hurt you really, really, bad." Tell me that doesn't scare you! If you have not seen the trailer for the new Suicide Squad go ahead and check it out here:

Hopefully you watched to the end and saw Jared Leto's Joker tell someone he is going to torture them. The more scary thing about that scene is that he seems to be enjoying it! That is why he is so scary! He enjoys hurting people, but, one could argue that plenty of people are sadists and psychopaths but I am nowhere near as afraid of those guys as I am The Joker! Yes, this is true, but this is why. He is quite possibly the smartest psychopathic murderer ever! He constantly breaks out of prison, he has built a criminal empire, he has beat Batman before! He also has the means to kill people to build this empire. Excluding the Emperor Joker series, in which Joker destroys the planet and everyone on it, he has killed in excess of 422 people! That is one guy, without powers, in pretty much one city. He has broken out of prison 73 times! The only way to stop him is to kill him, which the Batman will never do! In short, he is so scary because he cannot be stopped. Batman won't kill him and he breaks out of the prisons he gets put into.

So why do we love him?

So yeah, we love him, but how could we love such a psychologically intensive villain? Put simply, he intrigues us. We are interested in the strange, however being interested in modern day psychopaths could be taken as taboo. So we direct that interest towards The Joker. Don't get me wrong, I like the Joker, but I also hate him, I have an odd interest in crime drama, detective types of things. This leads to a love for Batman, and also a love for The Joker. So there are 2 real reasons that we love the Joker.

1. He is so interesting we can't turn away

The Killing Joke
The Killing Joke

A supposedly psychopathic, sadistic, smart murderer, yet we love him! He is totally unique! No other super villain has such a lack of a conscience or enjoyment of killing other people. He hates himself and how he is insane so he attempts to drive other people insane with murder, laughing gas, etc. This shown in the famed Killing Joke, in which The Joker tries to drive Police Commissioner Gordon insane. Constantly saying that it only takes "one bad day" to drive people insane.

2. He is the only villain that can challenge Batman

Batman. The hero that always wins, can fight the Man of Steel and win, the entire Justice League, and win. Yet he is challenged by a psychopath! The Joker knows that Batman will not kill him, so he gets more and more bold, even killing a Robin (Jason Todd) because he knows the worst thing Batman will do is put him in a body cast and Arkham Asylum, from which Joker will escape in around 6 months! So the never ending cycle continues!
