We are all used to remakes, reboots, and sequels dominating the movie industry which is why this isn't surprising. Before you could make the case as to that we had originality in Hollywood but now it's the case of Hollywood running out of idea and just shooting whatever at the wall and hoping it sticks. Which is why I'm not surprised that a movie based on Emoji's is being made, Hollywood just needs to make as much money as possible.
Deadline is reporting that Sony Animation will be the studio behind the project with Eric Siegel and Anthony Leondis writing, and Leondis will be directing the project. The website is also reporting that they are hearing a similar pitch is being shopped around, to some this may be Hollywood trying to make a quick buck but there are some positives to this. For all we know, the movie could be a huge surprise and be something new and fresh, something that we haven't seen before.
This is a clear sign that Hollywood is running out of ideas and are now instead making films based on Emoji icons. I wonder what the story will be. Will an Emoji fall in love with another Emoji? I'm not sure as to why Sony is going to develop this but I'm curious to see how it turns out, I'm hoping for something good but I'm not expecting much. What do you guys think about the idea of a movie based on emojis?
