Israeli-born actress Gal Gadot is highly aware of the weight her role as Wonder Woman carries in [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice](tag:711870). While the release of the film's trailer gave us a better look at the character in action, her role in the film -- and exactly how much screen time she'll have -- is still unknown, leaving fans mostly in the dark outside of a few photos.
But this week, Gadot opened up to Interview magazine about the pressures and responsibilities of taking on this iconic superheroine, highlighting the importance of getting this portrayal right:
"Oh, my God, I'm so excited about this role. I feel like I've been given a huge opportunity to inspire people, not only women. And not because of me but because of who Wonder Woman is and what she stands for."
With over a decade of excuses from stubborn Hollywood executives, the popularity that Wonder Woman could potentially have as an onscreen superheroine could further prove that fans of comic book movies want the powerful ladies from the pages of their favorite titles on the big screen, as well.
Gadot continued, explaining her confidence in the role itself:
"There's a lot of responsibility. But I have the best team and the best people to work with. It's going to be an amazing ride, knock on wood."
Whether Wonder Woman becomes the breakout star of Batman v Superman is yet to be seen, but fan anticipation is at an all-time high, even if Diana Prince's red boots of justice are pretty big ones to fill.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is in theaters on March 25, 2016.
