As you are already probably aware of, the Suicide Squad movie is coming next year and is slated for a summer realese of August 5. The movie will be starring; Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevinge as Enchantress, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnamen as Rick Flag, Karen Fukahara as Katana and Scot Eastwood as a yet to be reaveled member.
You thought I missed someone very important! But I didn't! I will elaborate on that later in the post.
The synopsis for the movie is as follows:
"A secret government agency recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency."
The movie is more or less a parallel of Marvel's Gaurdians of the Galaxy. I know what you are thinking, "What the Hell is this guy talking about?! This isn't some fun loving, colourful, space comedy!" And you are quite right, it is a nitty gritty, villain orientated movie. But it is DC's expansion of their greater universe of heroes villains and teams, and they are counting on this movie to do for them what Guardians did for Marvel; introduce the audience to their wider universe. DC is betting quite a bit on this movie, probably more than you think.
Let's begin with what is PROBABLY (I can't stress the probably enough) some misconceptions about the movie and some other things you will see in the movie:
DO NOT Expect This Movie to be About the Joker!
He is not a member of the Suicide Squad! I know that he is probably the most anticipated part in this film and everybody is dying to see the clown prince of crime on the big screen again as we all would like to see Leto's interpretation after his predecessor the late Heath Leadger as the Joker in 2008... But don't go in expecting that. The Joker is going to be in the movie and is probably going to be relevant 2-3 times in the movie but it isn't about him. It may be his debut but it's not his movie. They are only building up the Joker so much because they know he is what is going to attract people to this movie. And while we are on this topic...
This Isn't the Joker We Know
This isn't the purple suit wearing, classy, giggly, chattering teeth Joker. This Joker we are being introduced to we aren't going to like, we are meant to hate every fibre of this character. This Joker is going to be an absolute douche to everybody and he is going to look the part too. He is going to be sick, evil and violent, and he is going to enjoy every moment of it. The possible explanation for the Joker being so deranged and messed up (other than just being Joker) is that killing a Robin (which we know happened) messed him up a lot more. Also he drives a sports car.
***It is rumoured that the Suicide Squad movie ends with the Joker going on a huge killing spree in blackgate prison and the scene is supposed to make the audience feel very uncomfortable and disturbed.***
Also DO NOT Expect This Movie to be About Batman!
We all know that Ben Affleck's Batman is going to make an appearance in the film, but again that's all it is. An appearance. Probably to set up a history for Harley Quinn and that's it. Yeah, all the Suicide Squad members are part of Batman's rogue gallery but this is THEIR movie, not Batman and the Joker's. They will get their movie in due time.
Harley Quinn & Deadshot are the Protagonists (and Love Interests)
As far as anyone with a computer and some common sense can tell, Harley Quinn and Deadshot are the characters the Suicide Squad movie is really going to be focusing on. The pair are probably going to be the intial setup characters and the final characters who get a nice happy wrap up. Deadshot is going to be Harley's Knight in Shining Armor after her abuse taken by the Joker, and on that...
Harley is Going to Have a Tragic, Abusive Past.
So as a lot of people who are into Batman lore already know, the Joker is abusive to Harley, usually there is some kind of "Oh, look, he's mean to her but he didn't kill her so he must love her." No. This Joker won't be like that because we aren't supposed to want to like their relationship, it is supposed to be tragic. We are supposed to hate the Joker for what he does to Harley, because in the end she is the main character. Joker likes to beat her and degrade her and, quite frankly, in most cases, doesn't give a sh*t if she dies or not.
Who is the "Bad Guy"?
There isn't really anything too solid about who is the real atagonist in the film only rumours and theories. I will list some theories and explain why it seems unlikely or likely.
1. The Joker is really the Bad guy.
I have previously stated why I do not believe Jared Leto's Joker isn't going to be that big in the movie, and that's because it's not his movie.
2. Batman is hunting down the Suicide Squad.
Again same with the Joker, this isn't Batman's movie and even if they wanted to make Batman the main enemy (which isn't likely) Ben Affleck has been busy with BvS.
3. The Squad retaliates against Amanda Waller and the Government.
This idea seems fairly self explanatory; the teams does some missions, they don't like being controlled so they go rogue and turn against their captors. Possible... But not likely.
4. A member of the Suicide Squad.
There have been rumours of maybe the Enchantress going rogue or somebody else on the team and then trying to kill the others and then they are sent to hunt that member down by Amanda Waller. This is more possible but I doubt it.
The most likely force to oppose the Suicide Squad would probably be their (more) evil reflection, Onslaught. Onslaught is a terrorist-for-hire group comprised of super villains, they are pretty much the anti-Suicide Squad.
Don't Expect to See Deathstroke.
I know, I hate ruining everybody's dreams of seeing the world class mercenary, Slade Wilson AKA Deathstroke on the big screen for the first time, but I should prepare you. There are a few reasons why WB wouldn't want to use Deathstroke, first being that he would steal the show. You can't have Deathstroke without making him big and important, and WB doesn't want that, they are trying to build Deadshot as a character and make him our central hero figure, having Deathstroke in there would throw the spotlight away from Will Smith's Deadshot. Secondly, Deathstroke is already on CW's Arrow, and I'm sure they don't want to cross contaminate their domains from television and the cinema. I know what you are thinking again, "But CW used Harley Quinn and have a whole show about the Flash and they are stIill using both those characters in the DCCU!" Well to be fair Harley wasn't really used, she kinda was, but not really. CW probably didn't use Harley Quinn all too much because of WB's interest in using her for the future. The Flash however makes a good TV and of course he will have to be in the DCCU as is one of the seven and you couldn't have a Justice League movie without the flash (who is being played Erza Miller in the DCCU by the way). So all in all you probably won't be seeing Deathstroke in the DCCU anytime soon.
Cameos and References.
Well I mean he is the King of Cameos. But no Stan the Man most likely will not start appearing in DC movies suffice to say. But you can expect the Suicide Squad movie to be riddled (reference) with allusions to Batman's rogue gallery and lots of Batman lore. We are probably going to get a lot of references to other Batman villains like Riddler, Two Face, Penguin, Man-Bat etc. we will probably also get some references to some yet to be seen superheroes like the Green Lantern (probably not) or the Flash (maybe). And while we are on the topic of seeing people...
We Will Probably See the Death of a Robin.
This is probably going to be why Joker and Batman are in the film. In the DCCU we know a Robin has died at the hands of the Joker, this very well could be the setup for the movie, happening years before Suicide Squad takes place, where the Joker kills Robin and Harley and him flee and Batman hunts them down and beats Joker to a pulp, and that is also how Harley is already in Blackgate.
Well that's all the information I have for you. If you agree or disagree with anything I have said let me know in the comments below.
