Meryl Streep appears to be going strong as she rocks out on her guitar in the upcoming comedy-drama "Ricki and the flash". Streep has played numerous characters over the years with numerous jobs and occupations but never before have we seen her play an aged rock-star with family related issues. It just goes to show that no matter which role she plays the Streepilites will always be there to cheer her on.

Here's the plot synopsis:

Ricki chased her dreams of becoming a famous rock star by abandoning her family. She gets a last chance to put things right when her ex-husband Pete asks her to visit Chicago and help their estranged, divorced daughter Julie through a difficult time.

The synopsis already sets you up for a mother-daughter melodrama with a hint of comedy sprinkled into each situation. What's also surprising is that they managed to find an actress that looks exactly like a young Meryl Streep and then cast her as Streep's daughter, pure stroke of luck and genius. The only thing you probably have to worry about is how well they manage to play out the comedic and dramatic moments of the film. Streep has established herself as an Oscar-caliber dramatic actor but it will be nice to see her have fun with this role and from the looks of the trailer she appears to be doing just that.

Sebastian Stan is your mandatory female eye-candy who will serve as motivation for female viewers to spend their time watching this film if they aren't doing it for Meryl Streep, the real Meryl "melodramatic" Streep. In terms of box office, this film could make around 50 Million in the first week based on Streep's involvement alone unless she is no longer a box-office draw, and then we might see the numbers rise due to fans of the rock-film genre or it will be the average movie-goer who isn't interested in the latest action/comic-book movie. Which ever way you look at it this film will probably do well, if not great.

"Ricki and the flash" arrives in theaters on August 7, 2015
