In a previous article I talked about how the DC cinematic universe is going to explode over the next few years. You can read that article here. I basically talked about how, due to the way Marvel's lack of competition with any other companies causes them to be stagnant, they have no need to change or get better. But I was thinking and now have a new take on the whole thing - starting with this:
Marvel's next 4 movies will lose at the box office but will win with the fans.
Because DC hasn't come out with a movie since Man of Steel and the Dark Knight Trilogy and pretty much nothing before that, people will be much more excited for Batman vs Superman. Because of the recent wave of Marvel movies people will be less excited for a Marvel movie by Marvel and be more excited for DC. However, Marvel has so much more experience in creating movies that work. I do think that [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice](tag:711870) is going to be amazing but due to DC's lack of experience Marvel is just going to be better. They know exactly what works - although their villains could get a lot better of course. For example, when Captain America: Civil War comes out on May 6, BvS will have already been out for a little more than two months, but there is more hype for BvS. Because it is DC's second movie back and such an iconic match up more people will go to see it than Civil War. However, the people that inevitably end up seeing in both will enjoy Civil War more just out of experience. In a way, DC is the newcomer here, they have to claw up to reach the standard Marvel has set.
The fight: DC vs Marvel
Now for the longest time it has been DC versus Marvel, not at the box office, but on the shelves. Now that fight will finally be taken to the box office! Long time DC fans who have been content to watch animated movies to satisfy their thirst for the Bat now get a whole new series. Outside of Christopher Nolan's Batman series, no other hero film has actually done very well. Hopefully the upcoming Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice will change that. I personally am a DC fan but have been content to watch Marvel films the past few years. Now with the upcoming critical war between the two giants, one can only imagine the backlash. Such as the comic books based off of the series and the undoubtedly already planned, Rocksteady superhero game.
Who is going to win?
Now that is the million dollar question, isn't it? Now, based off of the amazing looking trailers for BVS, Marvel sure has something to beat! Sadly, no trailers have been released for Civil War, although I am sure those are going to come out fantastic. However back to the question, like I said earlier I think Marvel will make better movies but DC will make more money. If you are looking to buy stock, go 50/50 between DC and Marvel because the two of them are undoubtedly going to make a lot of money. However, one must also consider that the two companies are aiming at different audiences. Marvel makes lighter movies, DC is much darker. With the exception of Deadpool, made by Fox, most-if not all- Marvel movies were very clean and appropriate, such as making fun of Steve Rogers for swearing. Now DC, on the other hand has some much darker characters. It seems that in BVS, Jason Todd has already been killed and that is one of the most violent scenes in comics. Same with Suicide Squad, if I had a kid under the age of 12 they would not be seeing Suicide Squad. So, the fact that the two movies are geared to different audiences could suggest how the movies will compete, however I doubt one will blow the other out of the water.
