Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's new movie The Revenant is already causing a stir and considering it stars Hollywood heavy-weights Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, I'm hardly surprised. Because, let's be real, any movie with these two gems is quite likely to be amazing.
If you haven't seen the teaser trailer yet, here it is in all its epic glory:
In the ambitious period movie, the story follows a frontiersman (Leo DiCaprio) who seeks revenge on the men who left him for dead after he was savagely mauled by a bear.
Yet, as it stands, the movie does not seem like your typical revenge film and let's explore why...
For one, it seems that a lot of what audiences will encounter on the screen will be portrayed without words. Yes, apparently you will not be hearing as much of Leo's beautiful voice as in his other movies.
Speaking on the matter, Leo shed light on this, saying:
“It was a different type of challenge for me because I’ve played a lot of very vocal characters. It’s something that I really wanted to investigate — playing a character that says almost nothing. How do you relay an emotional journey and get in tune with this man’s angst … without words?”
And director Inarritu chimed in:
"Honestly, Leo, he’s attacked by a bear, and after that, he becomes almost like a silent character: a lot of things going on, but no words. That’s for me the essence of cinema: not to rely on the words, but images and emotions.”
Well, considering that Leo's genius is probably capable of relating any kind of emotion available to the human mind, his performance (albeit, a silent one) is undeniably going to be an incredible one.
The Revenant is set for release on December 25, 2015.
