After the comic book boom and the success of several comic book adaptation films (including superhero films) in 1990s, the first decade of the 21st century brought increased interest in the genre and some of the most profitable superhero franchises, many from Marvel Enterprises.
20th Century Fox's X-Men (2000 onward) became a film franchise by its surprise hit and added an element of more urban realism to the genre.
Sequels and spin-offs were also released throughout the decade. X-men were succeeded by X2: X-Men United (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), and X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). Each film earned more than its predecessors.
X-Men: First Class (2011) was also a commercial hit which was followed by a sequel to the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, titled The Wolverine (2013). . In 2014, X-Men: Days of Future Past was released to critical acclaim and financial success; the film became the highest grossing film in the X-Men series. A planned sequel X-Men: Apocalypse is set for May 27, 2016.
There was a rumour back in 2009 after the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine that an X-Men Origins: Cyclops movie was being planned. But as it occurs we haven’t got that movie. All they did was, create a new comic with the name ‘X-Men Origins: Cyclops ‘. It’s been six years, we got to see two wolverine movies and the third one will hit the theatres in 2017. 20th Century Fox are also making a movie based on Gambit and Deadpool.
One of marvel’s most prominent characters, Cyclops was rated no.1 on ign.com’s list of top 25 X-men in 2006, and 39th on their 2011 list of top 100 comic book heroes. In a 2011 poll, readers of comic book resources voted Cyclops as 9th in the ranking of 2011 top marvel characters.
Cyclops can emit powerful beams of energy from his eyes. He cannot control the beams without the aid of special eye-wear which he must wear all the times. His alter ego is Scott Summers. Scott was orphaned after his parents died in a plane crash. Scott and his brother Alex were the only survivors of the crash. His parents placed the boys in the only available parachutes, while landing Scott’s parachute caught fire and he struck his head upon landing which is responsible for his poor control over his powers.
James Marsden has portrayed Cyclops in the first three and the seventh X-Men films, while in the 2009 prequel film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he is portrayed as a teenager by actor Tim Pocock. In 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, he will be portrayed by Tye Sheridan.
We really need a Cyclops movie, as he is one of the founding members of the X-men and he is the first of the X-men recruited by Professor X. He is the leader of the X-men. Plus he looks bad ass with his eye-wear on.
