On July 17, AntMan was released and became one of the newest characters to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe! The film wasn't one Marvel's top grossing films of all time; only finishing slightly above The Incredible Hulk (2008) on opening weekend. But despite the box office performance, it's hard to expect AntMan to have done better than Iron Man, Captain America, and The Avengers. It made about $57,225,526 opening weeknd in the U.S. which still isn't that bad! It was the top grossing movie in it's opening weekend, beating Minions and Trainwreck.
In the previous few days of AntMan being in theatres, I've heard some negativity about it. But, in my opinion, I thought it was fantastic and one of the best movies I have seen in a while! What I liked about it was that it wasn't too over the top and included some very hilarious scenes! Yet, at the same time had some very important developments for the MCU!
It was nice to have another Marvel movie released after The Avengers: Age of Ultron, to lighten things up a bit before we start getting into Captain America: Civil War. As well, I feel the character development of AntMan and Falcon from this movie will add a little something more to Captain America's team. The post-credits scene of Falcon and Captain America talking indicates that AntMan may be joining them! This is one of the reasons that this movie was important! It gave us some insight to a new character; which they wouldn't have enough time to do in Civil War!
Also, the humor in AntMan delivered on par to the type of humor that has made Marvel so well-known for their movies. I don't want to give anything away, but make sure you pay attention so you don't miss any of the really funny parts!
If you haven't seen AntMan yet, I highly recommend you go before it leaves theatres! It is definitely worth the money to go and see it!
