Iron Man is a lot of things. One of those things being the igniting spark of the [Marvel Cinematic Universe](tag:1096390). Kicking it all off in 2008 with a stunning performance, lots of action and plenty of drama. However, in the upcoming [Captain America: Civil War](tag:994409) it has been speculated that sadly, he will die. However, I believe this to be wrong for numerous reasons. But first lets face facts:
Someone has to die in Civil War
In the comics, Captain America is killed by one Crossbones. In fact we have already seen Captain America fighting on set of Civil War:
Now if the film holds to the comics, Cap will die after the war is over, killed by Crossbones. However it doesn't necessarily have to end with Cap's death. But someone does have to die. That is the only thing powerful enough to shake up the team and really get them serious so that they can end up defeating Thanos in Avengers: Infinity Wars. Personally I hope a minor character will die, maybe War Machine? Sorry Rhodey. No offense to the character, he just isn't enough of a big deal. So this brings me back to the original thought: I think Cap will die in this movie. Here's why.
Chris Evans has a life
I love Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America and I think that there is no one better to portray him. However, outside of Marvel he has just started directing films and is very good at it! Plus, he wants to act outside of Marvel. It could be brought up that he has a six picture deal with Marvel and Civil War will make five films for him. However, my theory is that, like in that scene in Age of Ultron when Tony saw the bodies of all his dead friends, I think he will be forced to somehow relive his regrets. Ultimately culminating in some sort of ghostly encounter between Rogers and Iron Man. Or he could be brought back to life: Thanos is a god if he gets all the rings, so anything is possible right?
His death fits the comics
OK so this is pretty clear, in the comics Captain America dies so he should die in the movie. However, Marvel does not always have to follow the comics! Like, different costumes, new characters such as Phil Coulson who got added to the comics AFTER the movies! (Who knew!?) But something like a character's death is pretty hard to change up! So what I am trying to say here is that if Captain America does not die then Marvel will be completely ignoring the comics for the next few movies. It will continually be a thorn in the side of the films!
It would make many fans cry their eyes out
Now with the direction Marvel is heading in I know they are going for grittier films, with Daredevil, Doctor Strange and Luke Cage. All very dark characters, I would not be surprised if they ended up killing Captain America in a similar fashion to how they killed Duke in G.I. Joe: Retaliation I know, a horrible example. But in the film, he died when he threw two fellow soldiers out of the way of an incoming missile and took the explosion. It is possible he dies by saving another person's life. Now what would be interesting is if he saves Iron Man's life and that is how the war ends. That would be extremely dramatic and a tear jerker!
But of course we will not know until Captain America: Civil War comes out in 2016!
