It is one thing to have facial scars as proof of your bad-assery, but if you have just one eye, as a proof of experience in combat or another cool feat, then you're something else entirely. Here is a list of 5 badass, one-eyed characters in films, knowing that there are more iconic characters to choose from, but these 5 are the most significant for me.

5. Bill "The Butcher"

Also, having that mustache makes you a bad ass.
Also, having that mustache makes you a bad ass.

William Poole a.k.a. Bill The Butcher, is the main antagonist of one of my favorite Scorsese films of all time: Gangs of New York. Bill can be a fierce warrior (ask Liam Neeson about that), a ruthless man and a merciless adversary on any battlefield; he also can be a generous person, and he showed us a human side in the film, just when he learned that his protegee Amsterdam (played by Leonardo Di Caprio) turns out to be his worst enemy's son.

Bill is played by Daniel Day-Lewis and his Eagle crystal eye, combined with a handlebar mustache and a vicious look in his eye, is what gives him a spot pn this list.

4. Nicholas J. Fury (Samuel L. Jackson)

Nicholas "Nick" J. Fury, is the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and responsible for gathering together the super team known as The Avengers in the MCU.
Nick is a top of the line military strategist, intelligence veteran, information pirate and a retired spy.

His commanding personality, black eyepatch and bald head (opposite to the original comic where he has hair) are what make Nick so iconic.
He can make the choices nobody wants to make and account for it. Also his training in hand-to-hand combat and wide range of weapons and vehicles makes him an adversary you wouldn't want to face. Plus, he has facial scars to add to his bad-ass-meter.

3. Odin, The Allfather

Plus, I'm Hannibal Lecter, so don't mess with me.

Next on my list is Odin Borson, The Allfather, King of Asgard, Protector of the Nine Realms (isn't the last one a Game of Thrones title?)

Played by Anthony Hopkins, Odin has the qualities of a true King: justice, wisdom, courage and compassion, he is a loving father and husband, a fierce warrior and a wise King. He offered his right eye as a sacrifice to gain unparalleled knowledge among the inhabitants of the Universe, although in the MCU Odin losses his eye in a battle against the Jottun (Ice Giants from Jottunheim).

Besides his vast knowledge, he possesses a powerful spear called Gungnir which means "Spirit of Heaven", and is made of Uru, the same metal that was used to create Thor's hammer Mjolnir. This spear grants Odin the ability to channel his mystical powers through it, giving him a great advantage in battle.

2. Alastor "Mad Eye" Moody.

How do we sort out he liars?
How do we sort out he liars?

Played by Brendan Gleeson, Alastor "Mad Eye" Moody, is a catcher of Dark Wizards and Witches, former member of the department of Aurors in the Ministry for Magic, and member of the Order of the Phoenix in the Harry Potter series.

Moody's left eye is a magical prosthetic eye, that allows him to see from a very far distance in angles impossible for normal people (such as through the back of his head) and some solid objects. He is a quirky and paranoid wizard, but his skills are beyond any doubt. It is said that half of Azkaban's cells are occupied because of him.
Loyal to Dumbledore and The Order in the fight to defeat Voldemort, Moody protects Harry and the others, but he doesn't show much affect to anyone. In fact he is often harsh and stiff, with little to no sense of humor.

1. Sauron

The Eye of Sauron.
The Eye of Sauron.

In the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Sauron is voiced by Alan Howard R.I.P., and by Benedict Cumberbatch in The Hobbit saga.

Sauron is the Dark Lord and the Enemy of Middle Earth, and Master of the One Ring. He survived the loss of his ring, thus gaining his iconic flaming eye shape. Also, Sauron has vast armies and he commands the 9 Ringwraiths known as The Nazgul.

He is a powerful sorcerer and necromancer, wise, cruel and ambitious are just a few of his dominant qualities.

Without any doubt one of the most powerful beings in the Third Age of Middle Earth, even more powerful than Gandalf, Saruman, Elrond and Galadriel, his gaze reaches long distances and can pierce shadows, clouds and flesh.
But he is bound to his Eye form until he gains possesion over the Ring of Power again (which of course he doesn't).

One quick look in the eye should be enough to tell us...
