[Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation](tag:373501) is the fifth film in the Mission Impossible franchise that kicked off in 1996. It brings back Tom Cruise in his iconic role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt and the plot involves him and his team going up against a shady organization known as "the Syndicate". The film opens on 31st July in theatres and IMAX in glorious 2D, and I for one, cannot wait for it! Here's why:

1) The Track Record

All the Mission Impossible movies have been generally well received, both critically and commercially. Even the second one, rated "rotten" on Rotten Tomatoes, still boasts a 57% rating. That's fairly decent and the consensus implies that despite its overly simplistic plot, it's a fun action film. It also went on to become the highest grossing film of the year. The latest installment, Ghost Protocol - went on to become the highest grossing film in the series as well as the best reviewed one. The franchise is currently at its peak and there's no reason that Ethan Hunt's newest adventure won't continue the winning streak.

Style over substance, but still such a fun film

2) The Stunts and Action

Ethan Hunt and his team have been killing the stunt game since 1996, when the first movie impressed with its theft of the NOC list sequence and excellent climatic battle atop a speeding train. Things have only escalated since then with the series's set pieces including rock climbing, motorcycle chases, parachuting onto skyscrapers and scaling the worlds tallest tower.

The fifth movie aims to push the envelope even further with the much publicized plane stunt (that you can see below) and hopefully more sequences that haven't been given away in the trailers. Mad Max: Fury Road blew everyone's socks off with its practical action and while the M:I series may not embrace practical effects to a similar extent, its definitely cut from the same cloth. It is a well known fact that Tom Cruise tries to do as many of his own stunts as possible and doesn't like green screens.

3) Tom Cruise

His personal life and religious views aside, I'm a huge fan of Tom Cruise. I don't remember the last time I went to watch one of his movies and didn't have a good time. Sure there were a few not so memorable ones such as Rock Of Ages, but he put in a solid performance even in that film and was as entertaining to watch as always. He's been entertaining us for decades and seems to have no intentions of slowing down, and I for one will always be there to watch him. While many dismiss him for doing the same sort of action roles repeatedly, watch a few of his interviews and you'll realize he still gives it 100% every time and doesn't "sleepwalk" through them to pick up an easy pay cheque.

As long as he keeps doing this, I'm sold

4) The Early reactions/reviews

CinemaBlend has given the film 4.5/5 and called it the best one yet. The Hollywood Reporter sums up its review with "the series still flies, as does Tom Cruise". Variety says that its the rare sequel that leaves that franchise feeling resurgent rather than exhausted. Early Twitter reactions have included everything from "awesome" to "best one yet" to "so slick". At the time of writing, the film doesn't have a score on Rotten Tomatoes, but it will soon and trust me when I say that it will be high!

And that is why I cannot wait to watch this film! What about you? Are you excited to witness Ethan Hunt and his teams newest adventure or is this a film you'll pass on? Let me know in the poll and comments below!
