As Star Trek Beyond begins production, the casting news continues to flow in steadily, and today's new announcement adds a dash of interesting action to the cast lineup. How, exactly? The Hollywood Reporter reports that Joe Taslim, best known for his villainous role in [Fast & Furious 6](tag:37143) and The Raid: Redemption, has just been cast in the production.

Taslim worked with the film's director, Justin Lin, on Fast 6 and was discovered by Gareth Edwards, who is currently working on an upcoming Star Wars anthology film (which might explain the casting of The Raid 2 star Iko Uwais, along with co-stars Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman, in [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](tag:711158)).

Details of his role are being kept tightly under wraps, but it's been said that he'll be starring opposite the film's primary villain, played by Idris Elba. Also new to the cast is Sofia Boutella, who recently dominated the screen as the deadly hechwoman Gazelle in [Kingsman: The Secret Service](tag:713143). The three new players join a long list of stars from the previous films, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban and John Cho.

Who do you think Taslim might be, especially with Idris Elba's unannounced character in the mix? Let us know below in the comments!
