Sidekicks may not be the reason we go see the movie initially, but they are the a huge part of the reason we end up liking or disliking it. A good sidekick can make a movie, and a bad one can ruin it. So, I have what are - in my opinion - the 10 most iconic sidekicks (in no particular order) that taught us how to be a good friend to our partners.

Mini Me - Austin Powers

This sidekick may not have the best boss, but he is very loyal, regardless. This henchman was a clone of Dr. Evil, but ended up being a little smaller. And who are we kidding? We all love Mini Me.

Patrick Starfish - SpongeBob SquarePants

This may not technically be a movie, but we are going to count it anyway. What kind of list would this be if we didn't add a little SpongeBob? This duo is certainly one of a kind, literally, and we are glad for it.

Chewbacca - Star Wars

Even though this mighty wookiee is at least 7-feet tall, and covered in furry hair, we still love him. He, as well as Han Solo, really make the movies. He may not speak English, but he taught us a lot about the language of love and loyalty.

Tonto - The Lone Ranger

This duo started out on a radio show, moved on to a TV show, and then went on to carry a movie. But, for me, I try to forget the movie - nonetheless, you can't get much better than riding with your Indian sidekick off into the sunset.

Bucky Barnes - Captain America

This one started out as a comic book character, and then appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger. The most patriotic duo on the list, Barnes shows true friendship... until he is brainwashed and tries to kill Cap, but we won't count that.

Robin - Nananananana Batman

This boy wonder shows true loyalty to his mentor, the Caped Crusader. I mean, if I were hanging out with a billionaire, beating up people, I would be loyal too.

Dr. John Watson - Sherlock Holmes

Even though Sherlock makes him look stupid, he is probably smarter than any of us. This doctor has the nerve, and patience to hang around the renowned sociopath. But he manages to calm Sherlock and if he wasn't there, it wouldn't be as fun.

Deputy Barney Fife - The Andy Griffith Show

Another sidekick that isn't from a movie, Barney is what makes the show for me. He adds a certain level of humor, and the show wouldn't be the same without him.

Donkey - Shrek

This lovable donkey is the reason we all love Shrek. He is able to tame the mighty Oger and do it with a little humor. And for that reason, he deserves a spot on this list.

R2D2 & C3PO - Star Wars

The second sidekicks on this list, these little droids are some of the only characters to stay throughout the whole movie franchise. We love their little beeps and bops and they taught us a lot about sticking together.
