Since the resurgent boom of superhero movies, we've been deliciously spoiled. Even lesser known hardcore comic fan picks like Guardians of the Galaxy scored crazy box office kudos, taking the genre further and paving the way for an unstoppable tide of awesome superheroes.
With this in mind, it's seriously looking like - whether you're Marvel or DC or both or just here for the ride - 2016 is gonna be the best year EVER for superhero movies.
Release date: February 12, 2016
Why it's gonna rock: He's the baddest, rudest, most unconventional superhero out there, and we've been promised the movie will be a solid R-rating. The way the Deadpool movie's looking right now is almost too good to be true!
Most anticipated character: Duh, Deadpool!
2. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice
Release date: March 26, 2016
Why it's gonna rock: Yes, of course I know that BvS is DC rather than Marvel, but if DC brings out a gritty, high-caliber superhero movie, it can only be a good thing. The healthy competition is good for both camps, and superhero fans in general.
Most anticipated character: One word: Batfleck.
3. Captain America: Civil War
Release date: May 6, 2016
Why it's gonna rock: It's a comic book story arc that we've been waiting to see handled on-screen, and the crossover potential with the Avengers series is just too damn awesome...
Most anticipated character: Black Panther! And maybe Spidey... we can dream, huh?
4. X-Men: Apocalypse
Release date: May 27, 2016
Why it's gonna rock: the X-Men movies have been strong lately, and the promise of segueing from the 1970s to the 1980s - especially with the chance of seeing rarer comic characters such as Dazzler - is a thrilling one.
Most anticipated character: Apocalypse is a big one, but after fan disappointment over the way he looks, it possibly falls to fan fave Olivia Munn as sexy Psylocke to pull the punters...
5. Suicide Squad
Release date: August 5, 2016
Why it's gonna rock: So many reasons... but everyone loves a villain. Especially a tortured, messed-up, kinda-good-sometimes villain. We won't have seen anything like it before.
Most anticipated character: The Joker is always a thrilling but controversial prospect, so Harley Quinn is possibly the most purely exciting!
Release date: October 7, 2016
Why it's gonna rock: Sure, Channing Tatum may have pulled out of the project if this news is to be believed... but it's still a cool prospect! Either way, a solo Gambit movie will be everything we've been waiting for.
Most anticipated character: Only appearing in the Marvel comics in 1990, Gambit has got one hell of a lot of love for a relative newcomer to the X-Family.
7. Doctor Strange
Release date: November 4, 2016
Why it's gonna rock: The Dali-esque madness and twisted black magic will make Doctor Strange a visual tour-de-force if gotten totally right. And really, with Guardians and Avengers under their belt, it's unlikely Marvel are gonna put a foot wrong with Doctor Strange.
Most anticipated character: Everyone loves a bit of the Cumberbatch, but it's Tilda Swinton's turn as the Ancient One that's recently got people talking.
Are you convinced that 2016 will be the best year for superhero movies so far? Or is there that one movie that 2016 will not be able to top?
