Over the years, Square Enix has given gamers some of the greatest RPG titles to ever come out of Japan, or even the West for that matter. Kingdom Hearts has a lasting legacy in Video Games and Kingdom Hearts 3 hopes to continue that legacy on its release date for the XBOX One, PS4 and PC. But that being said, it'll have to be pretty incredible to top some of Square's best work.
Here's a list of the games that I think Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts 3 will have to top on its release date. If there's anything else out there that you think can rival these gems, let us know in the comments. Here's hoping that Kingdom Hearts 3 has the potential to take on these incredible games!
Kingdom Hearts 3 - The Best Square Enix RPG it Has to Beat!
There are almost too many games to pick from when it comes to making this list. I'll limit it to the three, but if there's anything you think deserves recognition, let us know in the comments. A lot of gamers may put Japanese RPGs down for their grinding, long conversations and general quirkiness, but those of us who appreciate their work know what they're missing!
Square Enix have had some incredible partnerships in the past. With Disney they created Kingdom Hearts, and with Nintendo they gave us the amazing Super Mario RPG. But the one that probably rivals all of them is when Hironobu Sakaguchi (Creator of Final Fantasy), Yuji Horii (Creator of Dragon Quest) and Akira Toriyama who was a manga artist who worked on Dragonball came together to create what some people call Square’s very best game. For those that haven't tried Chrono Trigger, it's available on the PSN store for PS3 and you need to buy it immediately.
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy VI (1994) was the first game that evolved the series past its cutesy image, bringing with it a mature storyline about identity and finding a place for yourself in the world. It was the first game that I'd interacted with that demonstrated the power games could have in replicating the emotional depth of films. The cinematics in Final Fantasy 7 were basically a reward for all of the fights you won or distances you covered. To this day it's one of the greatest RPGs of all time and we can't wait to see what Square Enix do with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
In 1998, Xenogears was released to critical acclaim and just like Chrono Trigger, this is a game you absolutely must play. If you've yet to engage with one of Square's greatest accomplishments - get on it people! Its storyline is endlessly complicated, but one of the greatest video games can boast. It features mechs known as Gears and revolves around the protagonist known as Fei Fong Wong. In amidst the culture and religious connotation, the game effectively boils down to investigating different religions throughout the game world.
