Set to come out in 2016, Star Trek Beyond is the third installment of the Star Trek franchise. I am very excited about this movie, especially since Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Simon Pegg are returning! I have loved the other two movies, especially Star Trek: Into Darkness. I really hope that this one, despite the new director, is still up to par with its predecessors.

Yesterday, I found out that a new actor has been cast in the movie. An actor that we have seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

Idris Elba, Thor's Heimdall, has joined the cast for Star Trek Beyond! According to Den Of Geek's article I found this morning, it appears that our Asgardian friend is to be the villain of the story.

I loved his character in Thor, and I have no doubt that the serious demeanor of Heimdall will come into play. I have only seen Idris in the Marvel movie, so I am not positive if he has been in this sort of role before. However, we do get to see a very angry Heimdall. When he attacks Loki in Thor, he is absolutely terrifying. I think it will be awesome to see how the good guardian evolves into a villain set in the future.

It is hard to say who exactly Elba's villain will be, and how he will effect the storyline. J.J. Abrams won't be returning to direct the new installment. Instead we have the new director, Fast and Furious 3-6's Justin Lin.

He has confirmed that he won't be remaking another one of the old Star Trek movies. I found this on CINEMABLEND's website here.

It’s all new and fresh. The Klingons, Romulans and other species are great, but it’s time to go further. It has been fun to focus on creating whole new worlds and species. -Justin Lin

Since Star Trek: Into Darkness was a remake of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, it will be interesting to see where Lin takes this new movie. With new aliens and people, I have no idea who the villain will be in this movie. Even the storyline is a mystery. Will it be a few years in the future? Or will it start immediately after the other? Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise. I hope this means there will be some nostalgic aspect to the movie. It would be great, even with new characters and aliens, to have a little bit of the old TV show referenced. This is the only thing that worries me about the movie not being a full remake.

So, I can't wait to see who Idris Elba's villain becomes and how he goes up against Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise! Hopefully, Justin Lin will blow us out of the water with Star Trek Beyond.

Do you think Idris Elba will be a good addition to the franchise?
