Welcome to the very first episode of "CLASSIC SPOTLIGHT!" And today we are going to talk about "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel". It is a comedy directed by John Madden. It stars Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Penelope Wilton, Dev Patel, Celia Imire, Ronald Pickup, Tom Wilkinson and Maggie Smith. The MPAA rating is PG-13 for sexual content and language and the running time is 124 minutes. The film's budget is 10 million and the box office revenue is 136, 8 million.
BEFORE THE MOVIE: I am going to watch "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" tomorrow, but I haven't seen the first one. I've been wanting to see the first one actually since it came out but I never got around to it. Now, I'm finally watching it and I hope it's going to be as good as I thought it was going to be back in 2011. The movie has a great cast!
AFTER THE MOVIE: OK. I really enjoyed it! I liked the performances and the humor. The performances are great all around. Dame Judi Dench and company are great in their roles as elderly people who all have problems in life. The only performance I didn't like was Dev Patel. He was the most utmost disturbance in my stay at Jaipur.
Obviously, an elderly film wasn't all going to be "fun and games" right? The movie has some genuinely dramatic moments and handles situations like DEATH perfectly. The comedy moments are funny and the dramatic moments are sad, and they are balanced perfectly by the touching moments in between and masterclass acting by the "Marigolders" (I made that one up.) The other problem I would have though, is Ronald Pickup's character doing the WEIRDEST dance I have ever seen in a movie. Although, this is just nitpicking.
