The reaction to the first trailer for Suicide Squad has been overwhelmingly positive, more than likely in response to the deeper look that we were given at three characters who highlighted chatter across the internet: Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and of course, Jared Leto's Joker.
Now, Ingrid Kleinig -- Margot Robbie's stunt double on the film, for anyone not in the know -- has shared a photo (which has since been deleted) that might give us an even deeper look into Harley's backstory, especially for fans of the new Suicide Squad comics. Check it out below:
That is ACE Chemicals, most widely known as the place where "The Joker" came to be after getting dropped into a vat of chemicals, but it's also where Harley Quinn was 'born' in the Suicide Squad comics.
While many fans think that this may point to a Joker backstory, it's this particular scene (and Joker's inclusion as something of a nightmarish memory of Harley's in the comics) that makes me wonder if Joker will actually be around during the 'present-day' events of Suicide Squad, or if he simply exists in Harley's flashbacks -- which this writer is hoping for, to be completely honest.
An introduction to the Joker as a traumatic memory in Suicide Squad (and even Batman V. Superman) would be great, letting him exist as a nightmare until Batman must face him in the future standalone film.
We've already been given hints that Harley's origin story will play a major part in the film, more closely connecting Batman and the Joker to the events of the film. Rather than seeing Joker's beginnings, will we see a battered Dr. Harleen Quinzel emerge from the chemicals after being forced into a vat by The Joker? Fans will have to wait until August 5th, 2016 to find out.
