One thing I've always looked for in movies is an unexpected twist, that even the best of questioning movie-goers didn't see coming. Don't get me wrong, I love a regular detective flick, but it seems like the best twists come from movies not directed towards detective buffs. In this Moviepilot contest entry, I've come up with a double feature that contains the some of the biggest twists in movie history, and will make you leave the theater questioning everything, including your own existence.
1408 is an intense supernatural mystery drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Starring John Cusack, who can deliver some of the best double performances in Hollywood, this movie has not one, but several different twists throughout. Is he dead? Is he alive? Was he dead the whole time? Is he still in the room? Does any of this even exist? You really have to see the movie to understand. The point is, this movie will give you a headache from trying to figure out what's really going on, and leave you guessing.
If you haven't seen this movie at least twice, then you must be living under a rock. But try to remember the first time you saw it. This movie about an anarchist psychopath has spawned so many inspirational (if that's the right word) quotes and ideas about the way we live, that it has the potential to change someone's life, and I think it's succeeded several times. Now let's get to the twist. Before you watch the movie, you would assume that it's about Edward Norton and Brad Pitt starting a Fight Club, right? Well, that's what the movie is in the beginning. Then, it turns into an anti-government thriller, where Brad Pitt forms an army of anarchists, and slowly convinces Edward Norton to adopt his ideals. I could explain the whole plot of the movie to you, but long story short, they're the same, deranged person. No one could have saw this coming. And the ending? I don't even want to go into the possible theories there are about this movie.
