The Justice League is arguably the most powerful (and famous) superhero group ever. If you are unfamiliar with them, they are the equivalent of The Avengers, but part of the DC Universe. The Justice League started off small, with 7 members, but started to expand slowly, recruiting heroes worldwide and protecting the whole world.
Often people have wondered who the most powerful character in the Justice League is. Today, I'm here to present my views. Some of them might really surprise you! So without further ado, let's get to it.
Real Name: Bruce Wayne
Nicknames: The Bat, The Caped Crusader, World's Greatest Detective, The Dark Knight, Batsy
Sorry Bats! Despite being a huge Batfan, I must say that though Batman has the potential to beat all of the members of the Justice League (given enough time, preparation, and resources), when it comes down to powers, he has none. Now this does not necessarily mean that he is the weakest (although he might be) - but he definitely doesn't compare to the top hitters. Even with his full arsenal of gadgets, utility belt, and his detective skills.
Real Name: Arthur Curry
Nicknames: King of the Seven Seas, Dweller of the Depths
Aquaman is an underrated character. Though he is often considered to be "lame" and "weak", Aquaman is actually quite powerful. He wields the Trident of Poseidon as his weapon, and can control the sea and all forms of sea life (yes, he could summon a Great White into battle if he wishes to. Of course it will need to be near the sea). He is also invulnerable to regular gunfire, has superhuman strength, and he can swim fast (I mean REALLY fast, about a couple thousand miles per hour).
Still think he's lame?
5. Green Lantern
Real Name: Hal Jordan
Nicknames: Emerald Crusader, The Emerald Knight, GL
The Green Lantern Corps are probably the biggest superhero organisation ever, consisting of several thousand Green Lanterns. However, Hal Jordan is arguably the most powerful of them. Best friends with the Flash, both have often teamed up and wreaked havoc on their enemies. With his power ring, he can do anything (and I mean anything) he can think of.
He has even beaten the villain Mongul in single combat (I think the only other hero to do so is Superman). He has been the only one ever to unite all the Lantern Corps together... ever. And that's saying something, because their hate for each other is strong.
4. Wonder Woman
Real Name: Diana Prince
Nicknames: The Amazon Princess, Amazing Amazon, Goddess of Truth
Armed with the Lasso of Truth, the Bracelets of Submission, Amazonian strength, and an immortal life, Wonder Woman is one of DC's most iconic and powerful heroes. She nearly rivals Superman in strength, and has some serious fighting skills.
She is also blessed by multiple Greek Gods, including Hermes, Athena, and Artemis, giving her extraordinary wisdom, enhanced senses, and the ability to fly. Also, she has wrecked Green Lantern multiple times (specially in the New 52) easily. Clearly, she deserves this spot on the list.
Real Name: Kal-El (Kryptonian), Clark Kent (Earth)
Nicknames: The Man of Steel, Big Blue Boy Scout, The Last Son of Krypton, Man of Tomorrow, Supes
I have got to admit, it was a tough choice for me on this and the next one. An enraged Superman is simply unstoppable. The only being who has actually managed to kill him is Doomsday, though Darkseid did come quite close (but hey, Darkseid is a GOD, the equivalent of Thanos in DC, except waaaaay more powerful, cunning, and dangerous). Superman's powers include:
- Superhuman Strength
- Invulnerability and flight
- X Ray vision
- Enhanced hearing
- Heat vision
- Freeze breath
- Super speed (nowhere near to Flash though)
If someone can succeed in making him angry enough, he becomes unstoppable, and you get something like the Injustice storyline (long story short, Joker tricks him into killing Lois Lane, so he goes full on Hulk smashing mode, kills Joker, kills and captures nearly all heroes. Only ones who remained were under his service as the Dictator/Chancellor of the World). Up next is...
2. The Martian Manhunter
Real Name: J'onn J'onzz (Mars), John Jones (Earth)
Nicknames: The Alien Atlas, Bronze Wraith, Bloodwynd
Yes, that is The Martian Manhunter taking on the entire Justice League. And he won. Just let that sink in. He defeated an indestructible Kryptonian, an immortal Amazon Warrior Princess, the most powerful Green Lantern, The Fastest Man Alive, The King of Atlantis, and freaking Batman together... all alone. Some of his powers include:
- Superhuman strength (quite close to Superman)
- Invulnerability and flight
- Regeneration (Healing Factor equal to Deadpool; he once grew a whole new body from just his head)
- Shape Shifting
- Intangibility/Phasing through objects
- Martian Vision (Being able to see through objects, and shoot lasers from eyes like Superman)
- Telepathy (Some serious Professor X level telepathy)
His only definitive weakness used to be fire, but he has overcome it, as it was more mental/emotional trauma rather than affecting him physically.
If that is not enough, check out the following panel:
He is also highly intelligent, rivalling Batman in that aspect as well. With that overwhelming list of abilities, I won't disagree with Superman! Someone who scares even Superman is not to be taken lightly. This leaves us with our final hero, the most powerful in the Justice League..... (drumroll)
1. The Flash
Real Name: Barry Allen
Nicknames: The Scarlet Speedster, The Fastest Man Alive, The Streak
Most people underestimate the true potential of the Flash. "Super speed? Cool. What other powers does he have? You mean he just runs fast?" are the usual comments by people. Well I am telling you, Flash is, according to me, the most powerful member of the Justice League, and I can prove it.
First of all, if you hit anything with a hard enough velocity and force, anything can break. He can literally shatter the bones of almost anyone he wants (except perhaps Superman). A few of his other minor powers (which he doesn't use too often) are:
- Phasing through walls and obstacles
- Throwing lightning (as most recently shown in the Flash TV series)
- Accelerated healing
- High level of resistance against telepathy (their thoughts are too fast to read)
Now comes the main point: Time travel. Flash is one of those heroes who can time travel whenever he wants to. Through this, he has created create disastrous results on various occasions. The Flashpoint Paradox is a great example of such a storyline. Because of one simple change created by Flash, the whole timeline changed to a world which was absolute chaos.
Flash has also outran death itself, and once saved a Korean city from a nuclear bomb explosion. Oh wait, that deserves a paragraph of its own.
Just take a moment to process that. Lets do the math here, just to give you an idea of how fast that is. Thanks to the following image, we don't need to do it ourselves.
That says it all. 13 Trillion times the speed of light. There's nothing fast enough to outrun THAT. And then you said that Superman is overpowered.
So there it is, my thoughts on how the founding members of the Justice League rank according to their powers. It was a tough choice in most cases, and quite hard to determine which position would suit the character best, as they are all extremely powerful!
