With the upcoming [The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2](tag:449866), we are about to see one of our favorite female heroines return to the big screen. Jennifer Lawrence is no stranger to playing characters that could easily beat anyone of us in a fight, bringing to life Katniss Everdeen and the mutant Mystique ([X-Men: Days Of Future Past](tag:203942)), but often times we forget that numerous others have played some super cool women as well. The likes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Princess Leia are some popular choices, but gathered below are 5 women who deserve much more credit than we give them.

Scarlet Witch (Avengers: Age of Ultron)

Scarlet Witch was a newcomer to the Avengers team but definitely proved her worth during the fight against Ultron. Any woman that can control the minds of Earth's mightiest heroes deserves some recognition. Her powers give her a distinct advantage against the AI's Ultron is so fond of sending to do his dirty work, but she has no problem destroying entire hordes of robots. On countless occasions she's also the reason some of our favorite Avengers didn't get killed, seriously this woman deserves some respect! Unfortunately, it seems more people would sooner forget we have this awesome woman and wonder why we don't have a Black Widow action figure. I also want to know the answer to that question, but more importantly where is our Scarlet Witch action figure?

Carol (Walking Dead)

Carol's character in the hit AMC show is far different from her comic book counterpart. In the television show, Carol has transformed into one of the most ruthless characters, stopping at nothing to protect the ones she loves. When we look at the Walking Dead, the first heroine to pop into our minds is the katana wielding Michonne. Luckily for us, however, the Walking Dead has enough room for more than one awesome woman. Hopefully, we'll see even more badass women in the upcoming spin-off, [Fear the Walking Dead](tag:1117438).

Fiona (Shrek)

This princess is anything but a damsel in distress. Fiona proves time and time again she doesn't need any man (or ogre) to save her. In fact, this princess even saves the titular hero on more than one occasion. She takes out an entire group of men with her awesome martial arts skills, and yet at the end of the day, we often remember Fiona for turning into an ogre. If you've seen the horrible 4th installment to the Shrek franchise. you know that Fiona proves to be even more of a superstar. In Shrek Forever After, Fiona leads an army of ogres against the tyrannical Rumpelstiltskin, and has some killer fight scenes as well.

Catwoman (The Dark Knight Rises)

Anne Hathaway brought the cat burglar to life in the third installment of the Dark Knight Trilogy, helping many of us forget about the horrendous Catwoman movie starring Halle Berry. Catwoman is a woman who is all concerned about herself, breaking into Wayne manor and besting Bane is no easy feat. Even when our hero, the Dark Knight himself, couldn't stop Bane, Catwoman manages not only to stop the villain but in a twist saves the Batman as well.

Lynn Peltzer aka the Mom (Gremlins)

At first, this entry into the list might seem unlikely, if the only time you ever watched Gremlins was thirty years ago when it came out, might have forgotten how awesome the heroes mother is. The cute and adorable creatures were fed after midnight and turned into horrible monsters, but before Billy even has a chance to get home, his mom has already single handily taken out 3 Gremlins. She uses her quick wit to use common household items to incapacitate the monsters, and even arms herself with a knife to defend herself. This woman should have easily won the "Mother of the Year" award and yet, very few moviegoers even remember her sheer awesomeness.

With the 2016 coming up faster than ever, we're about to see even more woman take to the screen in some badass roles. We'll be seeing Gal Godet's Wonder Woman in #Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Margot Robbie playing Harley Quinn in DC's Suicide Squad, and countless other women in X-men Apocalypse, Deadpool, Gambit, the MCU and more! While our screens are featuring more and more women, let's not forget about the awesome women we've already seen either!
