A few months back, rumors began circulating around Star Trek Beyond's Chris Pine, with fans speculating that DC and WB Entertainment were courting the actor for one of two roles: as Hal Jordan in the upcoming Green Lantern film, or as Steve Trevor, the love interest (and eager comic-hopping pilot) in Wonder Woman, which is due out in 2017.
Today, The Wrap released an exclusive report that says the actor has successfully closed a deal for the role of Steve Trevor, which they say will be "no mere love interest for Gadot’s Diana Prince, as there will be plenty of action to keep him busy, though plot details remain under wraps." The site's insiders claim that sequels and continuity of his character are optioned in the contract, meaning that Pine would be part of the DC Cinematic Universe for the long run.
It has been long-rumored on fanboy message boards that Pine's involvement in Wonder Woman was a smokescreen for his casting as Hal Jordan, but it seems as though that claim has been mostly laid to rest. It's still smart to hang back and wait for official word from DC, but this particular Wonder Woman fangirl will gladly accept the snarky Space Captain as a snarky Air Force Pilot. Who wouldn't want great lines like the one below in the middle of an Amazonian death battle?
Now that it looks like Pine might be out for Hal Jordan, who do you think should go for the role of Earth's Green Lantern in the DC Cinematic Universe? Let us know in the comments below!
