- Thanks to Nolan North's statement, we already know that Naughty Dog are indeed working on The Last of Us 2. But, with many players agreeing that the story of Joel and Ellie ended on a perfect note, which characters do you think should lead the sequel? Here are my opinions on which characters should be taking the Limelight in the sequel.
Imagine a sequel to The Last Of Us featuring completely new characters and a whole new setting to explore, letting you explore other parts of the world during the breakout. Sounds exciting, right! The idea of making a sequel about different characters and a different settings could come up with some challenges to the developers, as it could take a big part of the campaign making you care about the new characters as much as you care about Joel and Ellie. And, with the new setting, it could be a one big challenge to bring back the nervousness that comes when you play TLOU. But, if the game follows this idea, the developers should make sure that the game is set in a different universe, with having absolutely no reference to Joel and Ellie aside of some easter eggs, because, if, the scenes featuring characters from the last game are not done right, could ultimately ruin the first game.
A sequel featuring Tommy, with letting us know his side of the story, featuring his struggles after the breakout, telling us why he and Joel parted ways, and letting us explore the world hours after the breakout could turn out to be a good idea. As exciting as it sounds, if not done right, could turn out to be one of the worst sequels to a great game. But, having our experiences with Naughty Dog games, We all know what the team is capable of. With a sequel featuring experiences of Tommy, Team at Naughty Dog could take us to some dark moments, with Tommy's wife filling the space Ellie occupied, from a different perspective, throughout the game. But, if Naughty Dog were to make a sequel about Tommy, it should feature appearances by Joel and maybe, Ellie.
If the sequel features the same characters and the same setting, most of us, if not all, don't want Joel to return. Remember when we got to play as Ellie in The Last of Us, that part was probably one of the best parts of the game. We got to understand Ellie better, and could feel that she has been through a lot in the game. A game fully fledged based Ellie would be great idea. Imagine an emotional scene where Joel dies in Ellie's arms, trying to save her from the Infected, maybe trying to kill a stage 5 Infected which got removed from the first game. After that, Ellie is all on her own, fighting for her survival. The game could feature many emotional scenes of Ellie remembering Joel. It could feature Ellie meeting up new characters, making up her mind to trust them or not. As for the plot, maybe, Joel would tell Ellie that he lied to her about the Fireflies, setting up a a lead for Ellie to move from one place to another as would be considered an infected to the fireflies' soldiers, and could get killed. It could feature Ellie trying to convince someone that she is immune to those infected bites.
No matter what Naughty Dog chooses to make the game like, we all know that the sequel is going to be great game. Do you feel something different, do you feel you could recommend a better idea for the sequel, write all your answers in the comment section.
