The first trailer for Michael Bay's brand new war thriller; 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi has just dropped online and stars John Krasinski as a member of a security crew in Benghazi, Libya during the September 11th 2012 attacks which claimed the lives of four Americans.
Michael Bay is best known for his hyper frenetic style featuring buff men, supermodels, high contrast colors and a whole lot of action, but his latest thriller seems to be taking a very serious departure from his earlier work.
John Krasinski best known for playing Jim Halpert in The Office always had the necessary talent and charm to break into feature films but never quite did, perhaps this serious war film could be the game changer, but oddly we don't hear him say any dialogue in the trailer at all. That's all left up to James Badge Dale, a character actor you'll recognize from Iron Man 3, World War Z and The Departed.
This film is based on the true story of six security officers in Benghazi, Libya who attempt to protect the U.S Compound during the attack by Islamic Militants. This is a very serious story and definitely won't serve well for Bay's signature brand of misogynistic and stereotypical humor that crowds his other films such as Transformers: Age Of Extinction and even Pain & Gain which also was based on a rather horrifying true story, yet somehow Bay managed to turn that into a comedy. 13 Hours looks almost akin to films such as Argo and Zero Dark Thirty.
From the very beginning, this is very obviously a Michael Bay directed picture, the high contrast and sweat filled look to the film gave that away. But very quickly the trailer ramps up showing action, tension and a whole lot of American heroism.
I'm most excited to see how Krasinski fairs in such a serious film. I'm a huge fan of The Office and Krasinski's character was always my favorite part of that show, I've always wanted to see more from the actor. Coincidentally 13 Hours also stars David Denham, best known for playing Roy on The Office.
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi hits U.S theaters January 16th 2016.
