What started out as a novel by Shane McKenzie, El Gigante has since become one highly anticipated movie. After premiering at the Viscera Film Festival last year, Gigi Saul Guerrero’s slasher flick featuring a cannibal Luchador has been picked up to be made into a feature-length film.

According to its YouTube page, the premise of the short follows one man who tries to make a better life for himself, but is instead captured by a sadistic Lucha-loving family of murderers:

After attempting to cross the US/Mexico border in search of a better life, Armando (Edwin Perez) awakens in an unknown room, his body broken down and a Lucha Libre mask sewn into his neck. He attempts to escape, but is surrounded by a sadistic family, who watch him with hungry eyes. The only chance for Armando’s survival in this hellish nightmare is to last in a wrestling match against the most terrifying villain of all: GIGANTE!

Here's the trailer released for the short film last year to whet your appetite for what's to come:

Shane McKenzie's novel, which is the source material for the movie, is available on Amazon.
