Fortunately, it has finally been revealed which comics based character is Chris Pine going to play. After much speculation it has been confirmed that the Star Trek actor has been cast as Dina Prince's love interest - Steve Trevor in the upcoming Wonder Woman film.
Earlier rumors strongly suggested that Pine was in the running for a part in the leading Green Lantern Corps ensemble, but today The Wrap confirmed that he has officially closed out a deal to star next to Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman.
It is also expected that Pine has signed a multi-picture deal that essentially guarantees that we will see him in many more [DC](tag:932255) films in the future. Moreover, it is likely that this includes the sequels to Wonder Woman and bit parts in the Justice League chapters.
However, who really is Steve Trevor? In the comics, Trevor was originally a U.S. military intelligence officer who became stranded on Wonder Woman's homeland and developed a close relationship with her. Although, Steve is a man with experience on the field, storylines involving him and Wonder Woman have typically involved inversions of the damsel in distress trope, with Wonder Woman often coming to Steve's rescue.
Steve's visibility and popularity in comics varied through the 1970s to the 1990s, with his character either absent or playing a minor role in favor of fantasy and action-adventure Wonder Woman stories which did not feature romantic interests.
However, in more recent times and especially since the inception of The New 52, Steve has been portrayed as a senior government agent and super spy, whose close ties with Wonder Woman makes him the United States' liaison to the Justice League. In 2013, due to being a skilled government agent, Steve himself became the member of a new incarnation of the Justice League of America.
So, long story short, Trevor has been one of the oldest and most well-known love interests of Diana Prince. Consequently, it is really interesting what Chris Pine will bring to the role. Will Steve Trevor serve only as a source of affection to Wonder Woman or will he be more fierce and engage in battles himself?
All of this remains to be seen. As we all know, Patty Jenkins directs Wonder Woman and the script is provided by Jason Fuchs. The film is expected to hit theaters on June 23, 2017.
In conclusion, I believe that over the past few years Chris Pine has proven to be a versatile and beloved actor. His performances in movies such as: Star Trek (2009), Unstoppable (2010), This Means War (2012), Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014), [Horrible Bosses 2](tag:333116) (2014), Into the Woods (2014) and Z for Zachariah (2015) have established Pine as one of Hollywood's most sought-after actors at the moment. To be honest, I am thrilled to see him join the DC universe and I am looking forward to seeing him play Steve Trevor in as many movies as possible.
