Pirates make up some of the greatest anti heroes in fiction. And no doubt that the best pirates are pirate captains. So, let's take a look at five memorable Scalawags, with the Top 5 Fictional Pirate Captains
5. The Pirate Captain - The Pirates! A Band of Misfits (2012)
Being unnamed and played by Hugh Grant in an animated children's movie may appear to the untrained eye sub par, but this misfit captain is the most endearing captain on this list. Always loyal to his crew, almost to a fault, the Captain truly is a character to be remembered.
4. Captain Flint - Treasure Island (1883)
The only pirate to actually never appear in his form of media strikes fear into the heart of even Long John Silver. Captain of aforementioned Silver, cheese obsessed looney Ben, and drunkard Billy Bones, his crew was to be feared back in the day, and only Ben knows where he hid his massive fortune.
3. Captain Hook - Peter Pan (1904)
This one handed captain is a classic pirate captain that's unforgettable. Losing his hand and clock to a crocodile, and pestered constantly by the existence of the everlasting child Peter Pan, Hook is much more savage than we portray him nowadays. Even in the Disney film he kills someone for singing. And singing in a Disney film is something almost every other Disney villain does. To not include him would be a sin, so here he is.
2. Monkey D. Luffy - One Piece (1999)
If you look on most top ten pirates lists, they sadly exclude the rubber pirate captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. Upbeat, reckless, yet oddly calculating, Luffy is the only man on this list who has a crew that could rival him for captain ship. And his ability to seemingly do tactful planning on the fly almost grabbed him the top spot.
Honorable Mentions That Would Make The List If Not For:
Captain McCallister - The Simpsons: Not a Pirate
Metalbeard - The Lego Movie: We Never See his Crew
One Eyed Willie - The Goonies: He's not that prominent.
Captain Morgan and the Pittsburgh Pirate: Really?
1. Captain Jack Sparrow - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
God, I feel so cliche for saying he's #1. Of course Jack Sparrow's number one. He's a wacky flashy SOB and a drunkard, yet he's so charming oddly. I just wish I didn't have to pick him. I mean, who else is a memorable yet less acknowledged pirate captain who faces off against Davy Jones himself, and comes back to life in the most popular pirate oriented franchise of all time, and wasn't as cliche. Wait a minute...
Actual 1. Captain Hector Barbossa - Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Duh! Why would I even think for a second to choose Jack Sparrow? When I could go for THE most badass fictional pirate captain EVER. Whatever Sparrow did, Barbossa did better. Jack comes back to life in a shit scene in an awful movie? In the good sequel, in an awesome scene, the thought dead Barbossa steps out of the shadows, eating an apple, reclaiming his monkey. Don't get me wrong, I like Johnny Depp. If this was top five News Columnists, Raoul Duke would be #1, top five creative monsters, Edward Scissorhands, top five Necrophiliacs, Victor from the Corpse Bride. But, in the end, Barbossa deserves this title.
