There is no manly trait that's more important than a beard or mustache. It doesn't matter how badass you are, if you don't have a beard, you are seriously lacking in manliness.

Not all beards have to be big or make you look like you can eat nails and drink diesel, but if you have one it will take you to another level, so that's why I have listed my 10 favorite bearded characters. They might not be the most iconic, but man have they got style.

10. Fu Manchu - The Face of Fu Manchu

Played by Sir Christopher Lee, this crazy mustache has been iconic for decades, and it has been worn by other characters like Pai Mei (Kill Bill Vol. 2) and Ming The Merciless (Flash Gordon). However, Lee's Fu Manchu will always be the original.

9. Cuck Noland - Cast Away

Played by Tom Hanks, we watch Chuck's beard grow during the movie, from the 5 o'clock shadow to the Survival Beard. Chuck's beard and hair are bleached from years of sun exposure, which is exactly the kind beard that ultimate survivors like Bear Grylls would love.

8. Blondie - The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

This character's beard is simple but tough as nails, just like the man sporting it.

7. Alan - The Hangover Trilogy

Played by Zach Galifianakis, Alan wears a beard so puffy that he could be mistaken for a lumberjack. He is basically just a kid with a big beard.

6. Rubeus Hagrid - Harry Potter Franchise

The Giant's Beard.

Played by Robbie Coltrane, Hagrid's immense beard is fitting for such a large man. After all, Hagrid is a half-giant. But don't let his size scare you, Hagrid is a kind and calm person!

5. Clubber Lang - Rocky III

Played by Mr. T, Clubber Lang is an aggressive and tough guy (even if not provoked) and his beard and similarly badass Mohawk are just another confirmation of Lang's badassery.

4. Seneca Crane - The Hunger Games

The Gamemaker.

Played by Wes Bentley, Seneca's beard is a small example of the crazy sense of fashion of the people of the Capitol. Either way, it fits with his slick hair and extravagant outfit. Growing a beard like that has to be quite a challenge in real life, but the results are sensational.

3. Tony Stark - MCU

The Iron Man.
The Iron Man.

Worn by Robert Downey Jr., this beard style has become extremely popular since it was introduced in the first Iron Man film, and though it has undergone slight changes between the Iron Man and The Avengers movies, the basic shape is still the same.

2. Cap. Jack Sparrow - Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise

The Capn' Beard.

Played by Johnny Depp, a pirate couldn't be a real pirate without a beard, and even if Sparrow's beard has skin spots here and there, the awesome, bearded braids more than make up for it.

1. Gandalf - The Lord of the Rings/ The Hobbit

The White Beard.

Played by Sir Ian McKellen, Gandalf has the ultimate beard. Not a matter of size or crazy style, but wisdom, Gandalf is the most powerful wizard in Middle Earth, and he ended up with the number one spot because sometimes it is better to be wise than to be strong.

Let us hope that one day we can all grow a beard worthy of a real movie badass. Meanwhile, don't forget to tell us...
