Scream has just been renewed officially for a season 2 by MTV. Here's some amazing facts:
Scream premiered last month to an audience of 1.03 million total viewers (in Live+SD ratings), with MTV noting that 21 million viewers have tuned in to the first season of the series on-air and that the show has generated another 7.9 million streams across platforms.
“It has been a wonderful experience working with Bob Weinstein and his team who are such connoisseurs of this genre and we are thrilled by how our viewers have responded to the reinvention of Scream,” said Mina Lefevre, MTV Executive Vice President of Series Development and Head of Scripted Programming. “We look forward to another season filled with suspense, horror and more twists and turns.”
“We couldn’t be happier Scream has been renewed for a second season and that we have a wonderful working relationship with Doug Herzog, Stephen Friedman, Susanne Daniels, Mina Lefevre and her team,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films. “The Scream franchise has been such a huge part of our history and to watch it evolve, find a new generation of fans and succeed at MTV makes this all the more sweet. We promise even more scares, surprises, romance and of course kills in Season 2.”
Five episodes remain in Scream‘s freshman season, with the finale slated to air on Sept. 1. Season 2 of the series will focus on the original group of teenagers (the ones that survive, anyway) from Season 1.
Wow! 21 million viewers so far. 8 million streams. Season 2 confirmed. There is only one question left... Is it finally the time for SCREAM 5 to happen?
