Do you remember five years ago when the devastating news about 33 Chilean miners who were caved in and trapped for nearly 10 weeks kept us watching our televisions with bated breath?
That poor little boy and his tears gets me every time.
I have specific memories of feeling immense pain for their families, as they struggled for those treacherous ten weeks, hoping their loved ones were alive, knowing that each day gone by probably meant they would never see them again.
Thankfully, and by some miracle, all 33 copper miners survived, proving that the strength and will of men can overcome nearly anything.
Inspired by the story, producer Mike Medavoy and writer Jose Rivera decided to team up and create a film about the miners who were trapped for the grueling 69 days.
Now it's four years later, and we've finally been given a sneak peak into the terrifying experience of being trapped underground in Copiapo, Chile. Check out the highly intense trailer below:
Antonio Banderas portrays the character Mario Sepulveda, a miner who is this close to retiring. This film also stars Lou Diamond Phillips, Juliette Binoche, Gabriel Byrne, and Rodrigo Santoro.
Stay tuned until November 13th, when it will finally hit theaters, and you can watch the hope, the despair, and the determination unfold before your very eyes.
